Without a doubt - Shawshank Redemption. Easy question.

They should make a movie out of The Talisman. Great book.

I'd go with either "Shawshank" or "Stand By Me." Horror-wise, "The Dark Half" is probably the most dead-on page-to-screen adaptation, but it's also one of King's weakest pieces. (Coincedence?) For strong book and strong film that's faithful to the book, I'd go with "The Dead Zone."

Sleepwalkers, what a masterpiece of a movie; the acting, the direction, the sets, the cameos and Enya tune, mag-ni-fique! /ubb/wink.gif
yep, I'm gonna have to go wit the majority on this one - Shawshank.

I liked four seasons, and carrie

I like the movie with the mother and son, that sucked life out of virgins, and they hated cats. I forget the title, but I liked that movie.

My favortie book thoughis Rose Madder, I thought it was awesome, and very well written

That's Sleepwalkers....I liked it but I thought it would be a good one to mock. No offence.

Shawshank Redemption, hands down.

As far as horror, despite the fact that it took a lot of liberties with the book, Kubrick's "The Shining" is damn good.

Also loved Misery and the Dead Zone.

Best adaptation of a King novel:
The Green Mile followed by Carrie

Best film based on King work:
The Shining followed by Carrie

Stand by Me is the best of the lot, with Shawshank coming in at a close second. I'm looking forward to Hearts in Atlantis, but only if they faithfully adapt Low Men In Yellow Coats...it's the closest we'll ever get to a Dark Tower movie.

I must agree with Lindsey, "Carrie" was and is the best adaptation of a King novel.

"The Dead Zone" deserves a special mention though, Cronenberg is my favourite director, so I am biased.
Also "The Shining" for sheer doom, foreboding and atmosphere.

The Shininhg 10/10
Shawshank Redemption 9/10

Two outstanding films... I have read Shining as a book and I didn't mind that the film took lots of liberties. It's the greatest horror film ever made and one of the best films ever made in general.

Pet Semetary
Nite Shift Collection
Nightmares and Dreamscapes
Bag of Bones
Tommyknockers
Firestarter
Dead Zone
Carrie
The Shining
Salem's Lot
Four past Midnight
Misery
Deloris Claiborne
The Stand

I've read:

Carrie - good book, haven't seen the movie
Cujo - good book, stay away from the movie... it's terriable
Misery - excellent book, and the movie is really good but the book is better
Firestarter - ok book but not scary at all, haven't seen the movie
