Something I spotted while surfing around today...I don't normally like spreading rumours but I think all the Schmoes would be interested in this...
"Alec Guinness' arrest over 50 years ago for engaging in a "homosexual act" in a Liverpool restroom is just now becoming public. If so, that lends new meaning to the term Obi-Wan Kenobi British actor Sir Alec Guinness may have been bisexual, according to three new biographies cited by the BBC and the Guardian newspaper.
The soon-to-be-released biographies, one due out next month, will reportedly detail Guinness' 1946 arrest and conviction for engaging in a "homosexual act" in a public restroom. The incident, which took place in Liverpool, England, was hidden until now because when arrested Guinness used a false name -- Herbert Pocket, a character in Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations." According to reports, at the time of his arrest, Guinness was preparing to play the role of Pocket in a film version by David Lean -- a character Guinness had perfected on stage in 1939.
Guinness managed to hide the incident from the public eye, although Sheridan Morley, author of the biography due out in May, said that Guinness' sexuality had "always been known" to his family and friends.
Guinness' longtime friend and fellow star, Sir John Gielgud, was very publicly arrested for "importuning" (soliciting gay sex) in London in 1953, a disclosure that dogged Gielgud's career for years afterward and made the actor suicidal, according to the BBC."
Certainly interesting food for thought.

No offense to you, Dr. Drew, but that's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Who cares if a deceased actor was bisexual/gay? That's a little personal...and it's not really any of mine or anyone else's business...
Besides, he's dead...let the man r.i.p.

WOW! This gives a whole new meaning to "use the Force" or as Obi-Wan Kenobi used to say to his boyfriend "use with Force" /ubb/biggrin.gif

This just proves that you really don't know people, the way you think you do.
Next thing you know, Ricky Martin will hold a press conference to tell everyone that he's straight!

Hey ban all music,
No offence taken. /ubb/wink.gif
I was merely posting something that I read which I figured most people would be interested in reading, considering he was caught "George Michael styles" in a public washroom. Perhaps it was in bad taste, if so, I apologize.
But don't shoot the messenger!

British thespians gay! No, I don't believe it!
You should understand that the British theatre has long been a refuge for Homosexuals. That's not the surprising
thing, the surprising thing is that they all
aren't gay.

Instead of ,"Use the force ,Luke",it should have been "Use the vaseline,Luke".

Doc Drew: Let's not dig up the dusty bones of the ancient past. Besides, the guy's dead! Give him a break!
You're in charge of moderating topics?
How tacky for some biographer to bring up Alec Guinness' sexual preference *after* the man is dead. I saw the same snippet you saw, and I thought better of posting it.
Apparently Sir Alec's wife and son knew. They loved him anyway, so why should I judge the dead? It's not like the world was a welcoming place for homosexuals and bisexuals in the 1930s and 40s when Alec Guinness was a young man. If he found refuge in the theatre what does it matter in 2001?
BTW, why did you title your post "Obi-Wan Kenobi=gay" as opposed to...say "Colonel Nicholson=gay?" The man wasn't tantamount to the parts he played. He was human like you or me. BTW, your post is a funny way *not* to spread rumors.

Kici, I meant no disrespect to Sir Alec.
He has always been a favourite actor of mine and always will be, his sexual orientation does not change my views about him one iota.
I was only joking a bit. Personally I do judge people on sexual orientation, but rather, the kind of person they are.
All those Vaseline jokes are unfortunate to say the least.
Oh, it's okay Toby. It's just that too many people *do* judge, quite harshly. If the public just had to know this, why did the biographers wait until the man was dead? What a bunch of leeches.
There's far too much going on in the world today for me to give a rat's behind who Sir Alec "did it" with, you know?

At least he was dead and did not suffer the humiliation of such an article, or his family. Also I left out the word "not" A Typo.

kici,
Seeing as how you obviously haven't been here too long, I'm guessing you *don't* realize that most people on the boards here have a pretty *good* sense of humour. (Some, including myself, have a very, very twisted sense of humour) Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I merely cut and pasted an article I saw concerning the upcoming BBC biography based on the man's life. I didn't pass judgment on the man's choice of lifestyle nor did I make any vaseline joke references so before you go and criticize my moderating skills, carefully re-read the original post.
Dude, lighten up and don't be afraid to laugh and smile once in awhile. /ubb/wink.gif

Dude?
That's not my husband's pet name for me. Sorry, but I still say it's pretty unimportant that Sir Alec jerked off some guy in a mens room 50 years ago. What if that was your father some biographer decided to write about? I think it's very sad that someone felt it necessary to write that book. Don't people have any class at all?

Dudette?
In response to your last post, I completely agree with you on the biographer's decision to tarnish this legendary actor's reputation by mentioning this incident which happened over 50 years ago, it is pretty unclassy. As unfortunate as that may be, the BBC and the Guardian are interested in one thing, selling newspapers and getting ratings and I'm sure that this "incident" certainly added a fantastic sense of shock and scandal to their respective biographies. They should be very proud of themselves...
I'd better be a dudette, or these 38-C's I'm carrying around are really going to embarrass me at work tonight.
Yes, making money does seem to be the main objective in this instance. Shock and sell. I am of the opinion that people who are overly interested in the sex lives of celebs aren't getting much themselves. Hence, my complete disinterest. He he he and bwa ha ha....but of course darling.
I thought Guinness was too respected for someone to try to trash his reputation. I guess nobody is immune.
You thought I was a guy? And I thought I'd added just the right touch of indignant harpy. Woe is me. Take it easy, Doctor Drew.

I think that Drew just put the article up because Sir Alec Guiness is very well known, and he is best know for playing Obi. Even though in his later years he later regreted doing the movies, because he went into type cast hell.
I don't think it was "wrong" for Doc to put this on the board. I think as movie buffs, most people are interested in the people that play them. I mean look at the exposure that Tom and Nicole got for the marriage falling apart, its sad that there life is in the open like that, but they new becoming actors that there lives have become an open book. It's a price that they are glad to pay, so that they can earn that 20 mil a paycheck.
They same thing happened to princess Di, when she died, there was tons of stories everywhere that talked about her life, and you know what, most of the public ate it all up.
I understand that some people might find some stuff offense on this board, there is a easy remedy for that, don't read the thread, problem solved.
As far as Doc being a moderator aparently you haven't met Brock yet, the guy will blow your mind.

Geez, lay off, it's not like Drew wrote the article himself, he was just posting what he heard.
If your sick of celebrity gossip start burning People and Entertainment Weekly, but don't attack some random person who happened to post something he heard.
Sheesh.
Ummmm, guys, I stopped berating Dr. Drew if you hadn't noticed. The indignant harpy comment was a joke.

Why is everyone complaining to Doctor Drew about this post and saying that's it's "tarninshing his name" and whatnot. Sure, he might have had to hide it when he was young because it was illegal back then, but this is the twenty first century, and here you all are talking about it as though he should be ashamed about it. You might not mean to, but you are. This information should be taken in the same way as if his biography had said "Alec once died his hair purple".
And as for comments like "who cares if a deceased actor was bisexual/gay?" Well, people don't make money off autobiographies for nothing, you know. Sexuality, spouses, favourite foods - fans want to know it all. I highly doubt Doctor Drew was posting this to humiliate a dead actor....
Respect to Obi Wan, I say. xD

Are you a Scunthorpean?
Ben was omnigay. He had lots of aliases, waved a glowing rave stick in the face of young farmhands, and liked to be subordinate to a big black guy in a stick fight.
As for Alec - didn't care a decade ago, don't give a fuck now.

Obi Wan Kenobi = Gay? Probably the best thread title in a few weeks for sure.
I'm not surprised. I also don't think this will have much an effect on his reputation.
It's not nice to say these things of course unless it's about John Travolta or Tom Cruise. We respect the wishes of the dead, not the living:-)

So we are talking about Alec Guiness and not actually Obi Wan? It could probably work either way.

Wikipedia:
Guinness married the artist, playwright, and actress Merula Sylvia Salaman (16 October 1914 – 18 October 2000) in 1938; in 1940, they had a son, Matthew Guinness, who later became an actor.
In his biography, Alec Guinness: The Unknown, Garry O'Connor says that Guinness was arrested and fined 10 guineas for a homosexual act in a public lavatory in Liverpool in 1946. Guinness avoided publicity by giving his name to police and court as "Herbert Pocket", the name of the character he played in Great Expectations. The incident did not become public knowledge until April 2001, eight months after his death.[19] Piers Paul Read, Guinness's official biographer, doubts that this incident actually occurred. He believes that Guinness was confused with John Gielgud, who was infamously arrested for such an act around the same period.
Guinness is a rotting corpse now, so no matter to him what you believe.
