When I saw a poster for this movie I was so grateful that they were making another Mars movie. I thought Mission To Mars was a great movie, and The Red Planet looks like another great movie. The only stars that come to mind are Trinity from the Matrix, and Val Kilmer. I hear it takes place in the not so distant future, and Earth is being destroyed so some reason. I think that critics will rate The Red Planet, and "B Movie" but we'll just have to wait until November.

You really liked Mission to Mars? I did too, I give it 7/10.
As for Red Planet, it seems cool and action packed. The producers of the movie claim that it has more action and is more Matrix - like than Mission to Mars. So it might be really cool.

Uhhhh, Mission to Mars was one of the worst pieces of drivel I've ever seen. In fact, I think it's worse than Battlefield Earth. At least BE wasn't trying to be an intellectual sci-fi film. I'm not sure what it was trying to be, but I'm positive it wasn't that.
My main problem with Mission to Mars (aside from completly wooden performance and an utterly uninteresting plot) was that it assumed its viewers were complete idiots. The whole origins of earth scene at the end was just insulting. And why did they leave out the best parts of the story? - The launches, the landings... And the emotional manipulation - I didn't want to cry when Tim Robbins turned blue and grew icicles, I wanted to go demand my 6 bucks back. Is a little character development too much to ask in a big budget fx flick?
Anyway, I'm hoping Red Planet will be better, but based on the trailer, I'm afraid it may actually be worse. Didn't we already see this movie when it was called Supernova?
