Does anyone see parallels with TBL and Alice in Wonderland (at least the Disney version)?

If this thread goes anywhere, I'll throw in what I've noticed.

So far, this question has generated responces ranging from, "Well, duh!" to "No way!" However, I have not been able to get a conversation going. I spoke to my friend about this and it was mixed. What about you?

I would love to hear what you have to say about this, Irene...I always saw it as sort of a Raymond Chandler-type movie where an investigator interviews one bizarre character after another in an attempt to unravel the truth...but that's the obvious reference point; like I said, I'd love to hear what you've got.

First off, I don't think The Big Lebowski was intended as a take on Alice in Wonderland. It was just something I started paying attention to when I was alone, late one night.

Dude and Alice - Disallusioned. Doesn't want to follow what is proper.

I also got tripped on the Alice being big and small bit, and the fact that there was The Dude, and THE BIG LEBOWSKI. The little Lebowski ends up going on the adventure.

I particularly like Wizard of Oz/WWII:

Dorothy = Wide-eyed and perfect America
Scarecrow=failing rural eastern states(USSR)
Tin Man=industrial western nations(France)
Cowardly Lion=Britain - obviously
