Does anyone else have the same huge anticipation for this film as I have? The first trailer for the film trilogy simply rocks and the first part is still 1,5 years away. Can't wait for the first real theatrical trailer next christmas.
I totally love the book and I have read it three times. I trust that Peter Jackson can pull it off. He obviously loves the book as well and is a very gifted filmmaker. Just look at the Heavenly Creatures. A very good film indeed and shows kind of visionary directing skills that LOTR will require.
I like the fact that Jackson is taking an adult, realistic and gritty approach to the film. It won't be any colourful, happy kiddie film like The Phantom Menace.
So far everything has gone right. The cast is just perfect and Jackson is taking the right approach to the film. Some of you might worry that the budget is too small. Only 150 million for three films. But it's over two times cheaper to shoot in New Zealand than in the USA. The country also has all the exotic locales ready, so there is not so much need for sfx-created environments.
Does anyone else expect the movie as much as I do? Do you have any big fears or expectations? Please write to this topic! It's been many years since I have been this excited about a film.
I'll have to agree with you on an anticipation scale: Im psyched about LOTR! The only worry I have about it is they say the films are going to have great differences from the books. I understand that Hollywood couldnt make an exact replica of the books due to the fact that it would be to expensive, and that it wouldnt be very entertaining. The rumor I heard, and still this is just a rumor, is that they re-wrote parts of the story to give Liv Tyler a bigger role in the film. Other than that concern im ready to go see it now.

Come on, is Grym really the only one who is excited about the film?

For the record, I am also psyched about this film.

I too have read Lord of the Rings several times as well as the Hobbit and part of the Simillirion and love Tolkiens books but i have major doubts about the film. It is very rare that a good film is made from a good book, anyone read Catch 22 then see the disgrace of a film?
Plus we all have our own interpretations of the characters, how they look and sound exetera and in the film they will look and sound different.
One of the best things about LOTR is the attention th detail and there is no real chance that the complexities of the book ( over 100 pages of appendixes ) will transfer onto the silver screen.
A bit of a cynical view and i`d love to be proved wrong but there we go...

I'm with Freak, I know just from reading the books with their detail and depth that there is no chance a movie will ever capture all that. Also I think it was a big mistake to cast so many well known actors and actresses. Everyone that has read the books undoubtedly has an image of what the character looks like and when you throw well knowns in the parts it make the suspension of belief that much harder. I for one hope to hell that they do a good job, it would be a shame to see them hose it up. After all Tolkien didn't put a statement in his will keeping Disney away from it for no reason!

I think that casting for the film is terrific. The most famous of them is probably Liv Tyler, but I can accept her. She has done some good roles and has a sort of elf-like quality to her. I agree, that unknowns would be better... But so far casting has been really good, even if some of them are rather well known. All the actors/actresses range from good to great. Liv Tyler is one of the worst, but even she is pretty good.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean that the actors/actresses were bad actors/actresses, I just meant that IMO unknowns for are a better pick. Maybe its just me but usually I have a kind of preconceived notion about actors/actresses. Very few can play a varied range of roles. Most are good at one or two, can you see Arnold Schwartzeneger in a drama or to use a member of the cast Liv Tyler in an action type role, again its not that they are bad actors/actresses they just kinda drag a past with them(ok Arnold is a bad Actor but only when he is in a movie that he has to speak). In the end though I hope that they are great films the books deserve that much.

It's true that they can capture only a small percentage of the world and the story told in the books. But I don't think that matters much. Jackson is trying to be very loyal to the books. We never get to see Bombadil in the first film, but the film doesn't say that they never met him. The movie simply leaves some things untold and the ones who have read the books can fill the missing parts in their mind.

...There are several new official pictures released at the www.tolkienmovies.com. (http://www.tolkienmovies.com.) I just love the feel they have; gritty, but still very poetic.
