There haven't been many good video game to movie movies so far. Street Fighter was ok, Mortal Kombat was the best but still kinda dumb, Super Mario Bros. was good for little kids. Here's some games that are destined to become good mvoies:

Tomb Raider (Liked the video game, and i hope it comes out soon)

Metal Gear Solid (The coolest damn game)

Final Fantasy (any of them)

I think Metal Gear Solid should become a movie. I mean, the game is basically a movie on it's own. It would kick so much ass on the silver screen. Any more games?

The Tomb Raider videogames are horrible; and the script for the film isn't much better. Konami isn't making Metal Gear Solid into a movie; and even if they did, they'd have to do Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake first to complete the backstory.

I'm not that hyped about Final Fantasy for some reason. It's a new storyline, not based on a game, but Final Fantasy VII & VIII were major disappointments; hopefully FFIX can remedy that.

As for Street Fighter: The Movie....did you see the same film I did? It was horrendous! Anyway, I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Mortal Kombat 3, Tekken, Soul Edge, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, or Ninja Gaiden.

Isn't Resident Evil supposed to come out or something???

It's gonna be a while before that happens, Blyn. If you'll recall, George Romero was fired from the project last July, and that's the last news I've heard.

Oh yeah, oops. All I remembered was that somebody was fired and I thought that they were replaced by now to start getting things going again for the film...guess not...

I hope that they speed things up and make a really good film, cuz resident evil would be one of the best CGI effects movies...I think anyway. /ubb/smile.gif

I would like to see a Mega Man game, just as long as they don't give him a girly ass voice and they don't make it an anime. I think MGS would be awesome as well.

Rainbow Six would be kinda interesting. I like Tom Clancy movies. At least the on I saw. The one with Harrison Ford.

A few movies have been made where Chess is the theme. However, I'm yet to see a good film about Ludo and Checkers.

Well, I guess that Dungeons and Dragons looks to be the most promising game-movie release out of that, chess and Ludo

The D&D movie looks good judging from the pictures I've seen. However, I have not seen any publicity for it outside of its webpage. At what stage is this movie in production and when is it likely to be released?

The flight sequence with Thora Birch flying a huge CGI dragon will be a must-see.

I don't actually know if DnD is still in production, but it's release in America is Winter 2000. So we get a little wait..and why are the British always the villains? Can anyone tell me the answer to that one? Please?

As a Brit, I'd love to know the answer too.

Personally, I think Metal Gear Solid would make a good movie. It is very cinematic as a game in the first place. But I think I would more like to see Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver come to film. I love the idea of a vampire taking revenge on his brethren and i think it would make a terrific movie.

That I would have to agree with, IcyDuff. Soul Reaver would make an excellent movie if done right. The story is so dark and twisted, just the ending sucked. But that could be changed for the movie. Eye candy galor, as well.

As for Metal Gear Solid, I love the game but I don't think it would fair well as a movie. I mean the story is cliched (nuclear device that will kill lotsa people; only 1 man to stop it). I think its best to leave that as just a videogame.

Here is the answer to the Brittish villian thing. First off it is not just the Brits, Germans gave it hard to as do most Europeans in American films. Heres why: With a few notable exceptions (Deliverance) some "slack-jawed yokel" as a villian wouldn't be very threatening. And is it believably some hillbilly could get his hands on a nuclear weapon, or hijack Air Force One, or try and kill Bruce Willis 3 times? I don't think so, but with some methodical, brilliant, twisted, and foreign guy behind the helm it seems logical...atleast to most action movie goers. I think you should actually take that fact as a compliment cause the villian is usually the most intresting character, and he gets to go out in a blaze of glory (then he goes SPLAT on the pavement below). I actually like that we have it this way, cause who do you think makes a better villian Adam Sandler or Jeremy Irons?

I also look forward to MGS on the big screen and by the way things are well done with the game, it will most likely be a big $$$$$ production. I'd like to see George Clooney as Snake, he's cool and can portray the stealthy type. Release would probably be the summer of 2002.
As far as other games, I remember reading somewhere that Madonna would do Parasite Eve (???)
Resident Evil will probably end up being a low budget B flick. That's what the game is based on anyway.
And knowing the way Hollywood is, somebody will probably come up with the brilliant idea of making a movie out of....Tetris.

Quentin- you have a point. The villains are always the most diverse, intriguing characters in a movie. Most of the time, I find myself rooting for the villain for some twisted, deprived reason. Yeah, I guess us Brits just have that evil edge. /ubb/smile.gif

If there is any videogame that has to be made into a movie besides Tenchu, is Medal of Honor. Perfect World War II spy action film with lots of action and intrigue...eventhough in the videogame there was pretty much a lack of both. But still, it would be pretty good.

I thought that Medal of Honor was pretty much based upon Saving Private Ryan(not to mention WWII). It was made by Spielberg's company and came out just after the movie so I figured that it was based on the film. I think that any first person game that isn't based on a movie wouldn't be good on the big screen(doom, medal of honor, hexen, etc.).

I think that if they did it right MGS would be the coolest movie. I mean all they would have to do is take the cinemas from the game, make a few for in between those, then you would have a great movie.
If you were planning to play the game or if you haven't beaten it yet and wouldn't like to know the end read no further.
::SPOILERS::

Who didn't think that MGS had the coolest ending to it? Solid Snake is Liquid Snake's brother, but they were genetically created. I thought that all the stories of the villains were great(Sniper Wolf's and Vulcan Raven's death speaches were awesome). The Master is actually Liquid Snake in disguise, and Snake actually activates Metal Gear. Then Grey Fox kills himself in an attempt to take down Metal Gear. If you haven't seen the end then this probably sounds dull to you, but who agrees that MGS had one of the greatest, if not the greatest ending to it? I can't wait for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for PS2. Also, did any of you listen at the VERY end of the game after the credits? If you didn't, there are 2 separate things that you can hear depending on how well you did. The first has Revolver Ocelot talking about the mission and it's failures to the President. The second has Liquid Snake(i think) talking to someone(Revolver I think) about how Liquid actually got Big Boss's better genes and Solid got the leftovers. They are really cool.

I am in total agreement that the ending was great. You forgot to mention that Grey Fox was that mysterious (and kick ass) ninja that we saw through the whole game (follow the corpses to track him down). But Medal Gear Solid is like a movie. Thats what made it so special. It was one of the first movie/videogames on any console. So it would be kinda silly to turn it into a movie, when it was already a movie (am I making sense?). Yes the characters, special effects and action scenes would be great, but the plot is so contrived and cliched (nuclear weapons, terroists, 1 man army). And I don't wanna see it turn into a movie, in fear that it will take everything good about the game and make it into a crappy movie.

Oh, did you know that the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty trailer (its about 15 minutes) is on DVD in Japan? I am not sure if its coming here though...

The trailer is all over the internet(isn't it funny that Video Games have trailers now?) and is also on the newest Playstation Underground Jam Pack. And yes you were making sense, but I guess we just see it from opposite points of view. I am seeing at as though it could be great, you are seeing it as though it could be horrible.

Yes I downloaded some (crappy looking) trailers over some game sites. The trailers were awesome its just I had it on Media Player and it didn't turn out so well. I didn't know it was in a Jam Pack though. Thats friggin' awesome. I need to check that out. But the DVD is awesome from what I heard and am looking foard to it.

Metal Gear Solid had a pretty good storyline that really can drag someone in, so would make a good movie. However, making a movie that was more-or-less a conversion of the game would be the wrong thing to do, but something based on the characters would be awesome! Oh, and the MGS-2 DVD is only available on online/mail order, and they won't ship outside of Japan!

There was a 1st person shoot-em-up on the PC/Mac called 'Sin,' and that was a pretty good game with a neat plot. The movie for that I noticed has been made and the trailer available on this site. Looks good and I'll have to check it out. I can't wait for them to get cracking on a Parasite Eve movie. Madonna's company bought the rights to it but I'd have to say "blah" if she even entertained the idea of casting herself as the lead, Aya. That would not be a wise move for the fans of the game.

P.S. Found out that D&D will be out in the UK on Feb 9th 2001. /ubb/smile.gif

Are you serious? Aya Brea was like, what, in her mid-late 20's and Madonna is like going on 57!!! /ubb/smile.gif

I heard a while ago that Tom Berenger was gonna take the lead role in the movie Doom, but I never heard from this rumor again. I guess the movie got cancelled. It was a waste of time if you ask me.

Chrono Trigger (an old Super Nintendo game) would make a great film as ANTBond007 mentioned. An RPG is a solid choice to pick if your gonna do a videogame to movie crossover. I am currently playing Chrono Cross (the Playstation sequel to Chrono Trigger) and it has the movie feeling to it. Chrono Cross would be a novel choice for a movie.

"Pong 2001" will be out before the new year. They are keeping it pretty hush-hush for now, but word is that Keanu Reeves will play the ball...no word on who the paddles will be. Think Forrest Gump/ping-pong sequences meets Norman Jewison's "Rollerball" with a hint of Roger Corman's "Death Race 2000". In fact there will be a cameo walk-on featuring David Carradine...there was initial talk of George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg playing the joysticks...
