What do you guys think of an Akira live action movie ? Do you think it could be done ? Who would be the best Director ? Im thinking Ang Lee.

I think a live action might be cool (maybe to accompany the live action Vampire Hunter D that's in the works?), but the right director would be need. To bad Kubrick is dead, because it fits right in with his usual themes. James Cameron might work, but ultimatly the director would have to be a fan of the original.

I'd pass on a live-action one; no one likes people tampering with a classic.

I agree with Bskutle. Some masterpieces shouldnt be tampered with. Especially considering the awful live action movies based on anime that we have seen thus far (Fist of the North Star,Guyver 1&2).

Don't know if you guys know this but a live-action AKIRA actually was in the works for some time in the early-mid 90s. They calculated the budget and it was astronomical so they dropped the idea. Personally, I think it would make a great live-action film. Of course some things would have to be changed (the finale could never be filmed) but in the hands of a man who respects Otomo's vision it could be really great. Kubrick would've been a great choice but he's dead. Jim Cameron I'm not so sure about. Somebody a tad more experimental might work. Soderbergh maybe? Ang Lee would be pretty cool too. If they would ever give me the money, I'd love to do it. I've got some definite ideas on how to make a kick ass live-action AKIRA....
