I hate when you see movies on USA,TNT,TBS,NBC,CBS,FOX ect that they cut some much stuff out of it. I mean last night on ABC (@ 11:30) SE7EN was on. I watched. I don't know why. But all the good stuff was cut out. The after view's off the killings & language. BLADE is gonna be on TNT how bad will that be. I dont know y they do th@ s**t.

I really don't like them because they take away scenes that are part of the film, part of the director's vision. However I sometimes find them quite amusing, and a few times downright hysterical...Funniest goddamn thing I ever saw was GoodFellas on T.V.:
"How the heck am I funny? What in the fridge is so funny about me? Do I amuse you monkeyfellow?"

Want to know the best editing job EVER in a movie? Check out John McClane's infamous line at the end of Die Hard when it airs on network television.
"Yippee Cay-Yay Mr. Falcon!"
That cracks me up every time.

I Hate watching movies on t.v,because they cut all the bad stuff out of it.They either cut it out,or they add a new scene over it.I really don't see the point of doing it anyways, you can totally see there mouth move!Of course they have to edit soo much out on ABC,cause it's a "family channel".Pa-lesse /ubb/frown.gif

Ditto, Lindsey.
Remember when they aired Alien 3? In the climax, when Ripley plunges into the molten iron, it was edited in such an obvious, distracting way, taking some of its power. /ubb/frown.gif

Yeah, that sucks but come on, sometimes those edits turn out to be pretty *darn* funny. I mean, yeah, I hate the *stupid* edits they make but sometimes they would really *screw* up and make a some silly, stupid edit that is *incredibly* hilarious. Am I *positively* right or what? Ah, *forget* it, who cares... I have to go *play with puppy dogs and help old people cross the street* anyway...

As a serious moviegoer and someone who appreciates and enjoys critiqueing films I rarely ever watch a movie edited for tv. Between all thge editing (and normally anywhere from 10 to 20% of the movie is cutout to accomadate a time slot) between all the commercials and between all the bleeps you are doing yourself a huge diservice by ever watching an edited for tv movie and are without a doubt depriving yourself of the original dialogue, original format and original vision that the writer and director of this film truely intended.

That pisses me off, too. The worst one I've heard was last Friday in "There's Something About Mary".
"You're a frogging ashpole!"
Yeah, I can't even begin to count how many times I've heard a someone say that.
It frogging ticks me off when they do stupid stuff like that. I just want to kick them in their ashes.

You are all so right.Have you ever seen the tv version of Smokey and the Bandit. They turned "son of a bitch" into "sexy scum bum"I hate commercials with a passion any way.I swear I would pay to watch regular TV commercial free. But then they would have to make shows a little longer.Any fan of old tv series pay the price too.Sanford and Son has at least 5 to 6 minutes cut out due to increased sales pitches.Thats a lot out of a 30 minute show. They have to hack up the story to try and make it fit the commercial slots.

In general, I agree with you. On the other hand, however, there are some advantages of seeing flicks on television. Yes, they do edit, but they also add in never seen before scenes. . .Now this was before DVD's mind you. I saw THE GOONIES, WATERWORLD, and THE TRUMAN SHOW edited on television with never seen before scenes. Yes, I hate when TV butchers good flicks, but every once and awhile you may receive a small reward.

I watched Billy Madison on USA a couple weeks ago and they added a scene with him and all the servents playing kickball. It confused the hell outta me because I know the whole movie by heart and wasn't expecting it. Awhile back on ABC they showed Happy Gilmore and during the Pepsi Pro-Am scene, they blurred out the Pepsi balls sitting on the ground and put a solid black bar across Happy's Subway T-shirt. I hate it when they do that shit then 30 seconds later cut to commercials and show commercials for that product anyways.
Lately if there is a movie on tv that I have memorized (like Dumb and Dumber) I'll talk along with it and add what they left out. Thats the only time I have fun when watching movies on tv.

Now that you two mention it,I remember seeing Fast times at Ridgemont high on TV.I guess they dig up that footage to replace the "bad" parts they had to remove. When the guy gets fired from his burger joint job,on the Tv version,he goes home and tears down his big Coke sign he has hanging across his room.then he tears up some other resturant items he has.I always looked for it on the video, but never saw it,so I know they added it in.It was a good scene and they should have left it in the final cut to begin with.

Fast times at Ridgemont high is the most edited movie out there. I had always watched it when it was on TNT and TBS but when I actually bought the movie there was an extra 45 minutes that was never there before. It turned into a soft porn movie, I was pretty shocked.

There's a simple solution for all the problems with TV movies---don't watch, and you'll spare yourself the stress.

I'm with Dragon here. I almost never watch movies when they're aired. No "watered-down" versions for me! /ubb/mad.gif

How about that dude in Utah or someplace who has a video store with edited movies for those who want to see clean versions of movies originally intended to be tainted?

Usually I hate this stuff as much as the next person, but there was one instance where they actually IMPROVED a movie. In National Lampoon's Vacation. Clark and the family are lost in St. Louis looking for the freeway. So they're driving around the 'hood and Clark stops and asks this drug dealer looking guy "Which way to the freeway?" or something like that. The drug dealer guy says "Fuck yo' mama." and that's it. It's funny, but it ain't great. In the TV version that I saw when I was younger the dude says "Who do I look like, Christopher Columbo?" That cracks me up every time.

Stupid Butchers....
what's the fucking point of showing a movie on TV? I'd hate to watch Goodfellas on TV.They take classics like that and turn it into a fucking KIDS MOVIE!!! "So everyone can enjoy it" Bullshit! Let the kids watch the real thing! They'll pick up on the word "fuck" and "shit" anyway! So WTF!

Ok you want to talk about a bad editing job. I was watching Child's Play 3 and i cracked up dureing the sceen where the old general is haveing a heart attack and when Chucky is suposed to say "You have to be fucking kidding me." The changed it to "You have to be freaky kidding my." i nearly died.

I just watched Private Parts last night on USA and it was funny what they did.Everytime someone cussed they would just bleepit. They never cut anything out,if there was nudity they just put a clear square around the boobs! That was stupid but it's better then deleting the scenes!
