I'm sorry, I didn't like it. I tried to. I was really excited to see it, but it drove my interest into the ground. Pretty solid acting, but the direction was crap.

I think it was an excellent movie, but the plot was a little overly pessimistic. (Im not saying that war is not hell...but it goes a little far in exploiting the military). If you love war stuff, i recommend you reading The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. Its a great read...

Anyways..this movie deserves a 7.75/10. (Perhaps if i saw it again, the score would be higher...)

Ebert you have great taste...since this is your favorite movie...This is my 6th fav film...not only because it is a great War film but it is the best film about the Vietnam War...Oliver Stone's best IMO...To me this is the most truly realistic and terrifying depiction of the Vietnam War...Awesome performances by Berenger, Dafoe, and Sheen...and some of the most harrowing and thrilling battle sequences ever filmed.

This is a true hollywood classic!
10/10

This is my all time favorite war movie. Oliver Stone's great direction of the battle scenes shows how people didn't even know who they were shooting at, and the acting is absolutely perfect. Tom Berenger as Barnes is one of my favorite single performances of all time. "Death? What do you people know about death?"

(By the by, this is my first post here. Go ahead, congradulate me /ubb/biggrin.gif)

I thought it was just awesome. the first time I saw it I did't really like it, but after another dose of it, I was hooked. As everybody previously mentioned, the acting is just marvelous. Willehm Dafoe I think displayed his absolute best performance of his career as Alias. The part where he dies after already being shot is just heartbreaking. I loved his character, Alias, because he stood up to (the sometimes classified as villain) Barnes. All around just great, a taste of Oliver Stone before he got into wierd imagery and splicing visuals and such.

It was a pretty good movie, but not very memorable. I've seen it three times and I still couldn't tell you who starred in it (other than charlie sheen) or what the plot was about..or really much that happened in it. I personally don't really think it deserved best picture, but that's my opinion.
