Despite my undying hatred of Mel Gibson, I did like this movie. The word "epic" gets thrown around quite a bit in the movie industry, but this one really deserves it. Braveheart was really inspiring.

How can anyone dislike this movie? Some people say that the storyline is cliched and gratuitous... I dont agree with that. This movie has perfect cinematography, great acting, and an amazing plot. People loved Crouching Tiger and Forrest Gump because of their genre bending themes. This movie was just like those. It explored and conquered action, adventure, drama, and romance.
If you dont like this movie...i would begin to doubt that you love movies in general. (Not pointing fingers at anyone...). It deserves a strong 9/10.

The storyline IS cliched and some scenes are handled clumsily... But I still liked the film a lot. I have a soft spot in my heart for historical epics like Braveheart. 8/10.

When I saw this movie for the first time, I didn`t like it.Maybe because I saw it on video, or I wasn`t in a mood that time for such movies, but I really couldn`t see anything in the movie. Then a friend of mine gave it to me as a present for my birthday, and I when I saw it for the second time I saw the positive things of the movie. And now I already think it`s one of the greatest epic movies, having in mind I`m not a Mel Gibson fan at all.(actually I hate"The patriot").So according to me -8.4/10.

I really like this movie. Ok, Mel Gibson is not the best actor around, and in some scenes you might go "gimmie a break", but it's easy to overlook. In fact the rest of the characters in the movie are my favorites, I just tolerate Mel. The entire movie is just beautiful, not much else to say.

Braveheart is very good. There are only a few movies out there that have that quality epic feel. This is one of them. When I want to settle in and watch a long story, I usually end up here. 8.5/10

It isn't a bad movie but it isn't a great movie. I don't understand why it got 5 Oscars.

BRAVEHEART is my second fave after RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. I think it deserved its Oscars. It's a very inspiring film and as Ender said it really deserves being called epic. It was perfect in so many ways: acting (I discovred Catherine McCormack with that movie, she's good), plot (Randall Wallace is one of the best) and directing (way to go Aussie boy!). Perfect. 10/10

To be honest, the cliches are half the reason I like the movie.

Braveheart is a great film...and one of my favorites...Mel Gibson is terrific as William Wallace fighting the Brits...and hey I'm a Brit and I still love this movie!! A true epic in the grand hollywood style.

10/10

I heartrily disliked this film, for its simple and jingoistic tone.

The conflict was portrayed in blacjk and white terms, portraying the english as comic book villians.

It merely cashed in on the often un-justified anti-english attitudes in many places around the world.

Some great scenery though

It was predictable, it was cliched, and goddamnit, it was an awesome movie! 9.5/10

I saw this movie for the first time recently on television, heavily edited. I felt like too much was cut out so saw it again on cable. I love it. I think Mel Gibson is great, reminiscent of Kevin Costner in Dances w/ Wolves...( you know, big-headed directing self in one great performance :rolleyes /ubb/smile.gif It was nice to hear him talk w/ an accent again. The dreary and haunting scenery was very effective and the romance angle of course appeals to all females. /ubb/smile.gif The story was surprisingly close to the actual life of William Wallace and I just love the actor that plays the Bruce. (GOd forgive me, I can't remember his name. Help, anybody?) The one problem I had was the length of the death scene. It lost its power after just a few moments, I thought. I give it 8/10

Siren, that would be Angus MacFayden as The Bruce, a truly gorgeous man.
I thought Patrick McGoohan was perfect as Edward I, he really brought that man to life.
