I believe Loner is correct with Beverly Hills Cop. As far as I know, it is ranked 21st in the all-time domestic box office with almost $235 million.

The first thing that came to mind was Beverly Hills Cop but there could of been another movie that was bigger.

psudoazn was correct. as of to my latest knowledge it was the top gross.

I think it was becasue people were sick of all these teeny bopper "horror" flicks that have come out.

Neither Hannibal or Scary Movie did more than 200 million, so how could they be bigger grossing than Terminator 2 or Beverly Hills Cop?

Here is a list of the top 10 grossing R-rated films in the US:

21.Beverly Hills Cop - $234.7 million
28.Saving Private Ryan - $216 million
32.Terminator 2 - $204 million
33.The Exorcist - $204 million
39.Gladiator - $187 million
51.Pretty Woman - $178 million
54.There's Something About Mary - $176 million
57.Air Force One - $172 million
60.The Matrix - $171 million

Scary Movie isn't even in the top 10 grossing R-rated movies. I believe what you might be thinking about is it had the biggest opening for an R-rated movie.

Pretty Woman was R? What the fuck? And Air Force One? That was not a very violent film.

You're watching to much porn Ebert. /ubb/smile.gif
Kate Winslet nudity in Titanic was artistical not pornografical...

Anyway, in my country many of the fils that Narst mentioned wasn't rated R.

"Artistical nudity" is bullshit! If a little kid sees it, it makes no difference if the tits are over a couch or under a manīs chest, the psicological shock itīs exactly the same.

LOL. "Psychological shock" from seeing a pair of teats? You do realize kids suck on them for quite some time after being born. And nudity is not something that sends one into psychological shock unless they are taught over and over it is naughty and dirty and wrong and sinful by overbearing parents. Violence is one thing, I don't think most are affected by it but some kids do have no sense or reality...Nudity though? Please...nudity never harmed anyone, and certainly never seeing a breast onscreen sent anyone into "psychological shock" the mere insinuation of such is absurd.

You should buy yourself a good book about child psicology. Seen a pair of tits or, even worse, fucking scenes (with or without clothes) really shocks a small kid, since he doesnīt have a clear understanding of sexuality and tose kind of images will confuse him and puzzle his minds. Small kids are very vulnerable to this kind of stimuli.

However, I agree with you in that the titanic scene isnīt that shocking at all. the worst scenes are those containing some kind of either direct or indirect sexual act.

One time I took my mother to a movie, and all of a sudden a naked woman showed up. My mom slapped me upside the head and (I was like 7) it sent me into a "shock". So yes, Nudity sends kids into shock.

Full Frontal Nutidy is apparently allowed in any rated film as long as it isn't sexual. However, the censorship boards and what not have seem to forgotten this little rule

I think there should be tits in kids movies.. Seriously.. What's so scarey about tits..? Most kids have seen their mother's tits.. If they're just tits, what's the harm in that..? If they're big, bouncy tits that are getting fucked, that's when you slap an R or even a XXX rating on them..

The Little Mermaid would have been better if the mermaids were all totally nude.. How many real mermaids do you think wear seashells on their boobs..? None of them! Kids know that, and they wouldn't be shocked if they saw Arials tits.. C'mon... she wasn't wearing any pants either! Geez!

Yes, BHC is the winner, are there any sites that reveal the RATING of a film? and i'd be interested in ascertaining the INTERNATIONAL boxoffice records, and then comparing these films.

Technically it's "Jaws" whose original rating was R until it was re-rated PG-13 after it grossed $260 million.

Actually, JAWS currents holds a PG -rating, however, here are some interesting facts:

Highest grossing R rated film, adjusted for inflation is THE EXORCIST, number 13 on the all time list, unless Dr. Zhivago is rated R which is number 8 on the all time list including inflation, by the way number 1 is GONE WITH THE WIND, and TITANIC is number 5.

Now for the number 1 R rated film including worldwide box office receipts: The winner is TERMINATOR 2, grossing $516M, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN is number 2, grossing $473M, by the way PRETTY WOMAN is up there, whoever mentioned that film before, so is THE GLADIATOR and THE MATRIX.

Here's an interesting number for ya: In 1937 SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS was made for a mere ONE MILLION dollars, worldwide it grossed $185M, that has to be the best return in the history of cinema, excluding maybe THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT which grossed $240 worldwide, but the budget for that film is inconsistent, originally it was stipulated at $40,000 dollars, but I think it ended up being more like $1.5M which would render SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS number 1, certainly a more worthy bearer or the title.

STARWARS grossed $784M worldwide, made for just $11M, GREASE grossed $380M worldwide and was made for $6M, and the number one film with inflation adjusted, GONE WITH THE WIND was made for $3M, pretty impressive.
