Yes, I believe that now after reading it on MSNBC.com
That is truly, truly sad. She had both a promising acting and singing career ahead of her.
Best wishes go out to her family and friends.

Shit...that is pretty sad. Here's the whole story from CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2001/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/26/bahamas.crash.ap/index.html):
"MARSH HARBOUR, Bahamas (AP) -- R&B singer and actress Aaliyah died Saturday when a small plane that was to carry her and eight others back to the United States crashed after takeoff in the Bahamas, authorities said.
Eight were killed, and one critically injured man was flown to Florida for treatment, officials said.
"We find it devastating and most unfortunate that after having this world-famous star Aaliyah and her crew select the Bahamas as their choice location for her latest video, the project has climaxed on such a tragic note," said Minister of Tourism Tommy Turnquest, who happened to be visiting Abaco Island, where the plane went down.
Aaliyah's song "Try Again" earned her a Grammy nomination for best female R&B vocalist. She made her feature acting debut in the film "Romeo Must Die."
Bahamian national television quoted the civil aviation department as saying Aaliyah was among nine Americans on board.
The private plane was leaving the Marsh Harbour airport on a trip to Opa-locka, Florida, when it went down Saturday evening, said police spokesman Marvin Dames.
Abaco Island Chief Councilor Silbert Mills said those killed included two women and six men.
Islander Derek Russell, who worked for the group during the video shoot, said he got the artist's autograph before the accident.
"She's a nice girl, a friendly girl," he said.
The cause of the crash was unclear. Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in Atlanta, said the plane was a Cessna 402 owned by Skystream, a company based in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She said the plane crashed at the end of the airport's runway at 6:50 p.m. EDT (2250 GMT)."

That is just about the saddest thing I have ever heard. She was an excellent actress, and a talented Singer. The world will miss her talents. Their are so few young talents that are not just beutiful, but good as well, it is a shame that her time came so soon.

That is just so sad. I saw it on CNN just 20 minutes ago. It is very sad when tragedies like this happen, especially when it's someone who's still so young. 8 other people died and one other is critically injured. They flew him away on a plane. The plane crashed because of engine failure.

This is just so tragic. Aaliyah's poor family. I feel really sorry for them! They'll be in my prayers.
Aaliyah was so young, only 22. R.I.P Aaliyah!
Her career was at its climax and she was starring in the Matrix sequels...Just SAD

Dayam, Aaliyah was one of the "good" ones out there, I've seen her in countless interviews and she always seemed like a down to earth person who was genereally pretty likeable and cool. (unlike, say, Mariah Carey)
What I don't get is why these celebrities insist on taking this sketchy ass personal planes...I mean, so many people have died in them, you'd think people would start being much wearier and decided on taking bigger and safer planes. Look at the names...Richie Valens, Big Bopper, John Denver, JFK Jr and his wife...just a passing obersvation.

It is sad and I have never seen any of her movies(or is it just movie) or heard any of her music or even seen any of her interviews, ect. But the fact that she was only 22 makes it so sad. Noone deserves to go so young. Not even Pauly Shore.....well maybe not quite everyone http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif Anyway this was a shocker when I read hear late last night and saw it in the news this morning.

Last night I was watching Music Videos then they annouced she had died. I was thinking, That is sad, but are they sure. This morning I double checked and sure enought. Very sad moment. August 25th will be remembered. I heard most bodies were burnt in the plane crash and couldnt identify all of them. That is terrible. ----------- http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

It's such a sad thing to hear. I was so shocked when i was told about it today.
I mean for the world to lose such a talent.
She was sooo young, a very good looking woman, very good actress in Romeo Must Die, and a singer with a very good voice, she never really appealed to my taste of music but i always respected her clear talent and capability she showed...she will be sorely missed.
Rest In Peace, and may we all hope you didn't experience anything too horrific on your way out http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

Tragic, like most any death. I think we should also acknowledge the eight other individuals who died in the crash as well.
