JoBlo talks to Kevin Smith

I'm not usually disapointed by anything here on joblo.com, but I just read the Kevin Smith interview that you can find here (http://www.joblo.com/interviewsmith.htm) if you haven't read it already. While I certinaly did laugh at some of the questions/answers, I was left with a rather large feeling of "where are the real questions?" What about the "anything exciting to tell us about your next movie?" and "how about the issue between you and the gay organizations?" (which are protesting Smith's latest flick). Don't get me wrong, the questions asked were certainly funny/worth asking, I just think a few real ones should have been injected into the mix. True, a lot of that was covered by those of us who read the...

... you know... that THING! damn... I've all but completely forgotten the name of it, but I'm talking about the big movie festival ordeal that Jo went to and did the big writeup from Kevin Smith's appearance there.

So yea, I realize a question or two may have been already covered there, but one look at Kevin would have probably implied he never tried to "suck his own dick" before.

While I wouldn't have removed any of the questions that were asked, I think a few "real" ones might have done the interview a little justice.

That's just my 2 cents... take it for what it's worth.

PS (to Jo) - Would I be correct in assuming that a lot of the questions were rather "gay-oriented" just to help lay Smith's "gay-bashing" reputation to the side? I know he's taking a lot of heat over it as of late, so answering those types of questions would obviously help his cause. I'm just assuming for lack of a better reason that you'd ask that many question about nailing other guys.

There are several reasons why the "interview" came out like it did:

1) I simply did not have the luxury of asking him long questions (he was an extremely busy man last week, and he asked that they be "short and sweet"

2) I wanted to do something DIFFERENT! I had personally read everything I wanted to read about Smith in a multitude of interviews on the Net and on the talk shows, and didn't want to rehash the same ol' things over and over...

3) MOST IMPORTANTLY, the questions asked were basically all in the same vein as is his latest film, JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, in that, they were filled with cock, fart, gay, sex and pretty much any other kind of humor that you could imagine. I'm guessing that those who have seen the movie already, will likely appreciate that connection more (although he's covered all of these topics in his previous flicks as well...)

I basically wanted the guy to "relax and have fun" with this interview, and for us to get a kick out of some of his answers, and I hoped that I accomplished that... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

I believe it was an "e-mail" interview, not an "in person" interview. Am I right Jo? That's the impression I got.

Dude I am a huge Smith fan and I am grown up. I am 26 yrs old, own a brand new 2500 square foot house, and pull down over six bills. Not to mention my wife is a major hottie. I too are not big on feces jokes but like anything you take it with a grain of salt. Stop getting all feces/homophobic.

Ok, wait a sec... I don't want to be misquoted here, ok. I'm saying again, as I've said before, I liked the questions that were asked - it was a funny and new type of interview. However, I would have liked a few ~real~ questions. That is to say, film/movie/hollywood related questions. You're welcome to your opinion, just please don't tie me in with it - I didn't think the interview "sucked" -- I just thought it could have been more. I believe people need to think about the context of Kevin Smith's latest flick (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back), BEFORE they read the interview... That's why I believe the questions asked were good (despite the fact I would have liked a few more). The questions are very "Kevin Smith"-like.
