Word is that Dreamworks is still hoping to release ROAD TO PERDITION in December to qualify for the Oscars. The studio is aware that all Tom Hanks needs to do in a film is fart and the Academy listens. Tom Hanks has got to be the most overrated actor working in movies today. The guy has two modes of expression: constipated and putrid. He plays the everyman everytime. His role in ROAD TO PERDITION is supposed to be a stretch because he plays a bad guy - a gangster. I have to see it to believe it. My early prediction is he plays an everyfella, more good than bad.

I disagree - Tom Hanks is very talented at comedy, which is mostly of what he did early on - "The Money Pit", "Big" et al. Recently i find that he does the drama very well, especially "Saving Private Ryan" - His finest performance next to his technical brilliance in Forrest Gump, in my view.
Perhaps he is overrated, but there's always someone who is seen as over-rated by another.

Don't get me wrong. I didn't say he's a bad actor. I just don't think that he's as great as the accolades make him out to be. He's a nice guy who plays mostly nice, Oscar-worthy guys. And nobody does putrid and constipated better than he does. Let's hope his turn in ROAD TO PERDITION is what it's cracked up to be. But from what I hear, he plays another good guy who just happens to be a gangster.
