I havent checked any episode II info lately, so do you guys think EpisodeII will have the same dramatic inpact as Empire did?
Cos "SW4: a new hope" was a great movie, but the real hype came when "Empire" was released.
I think Episode II will be very important for the survival of Starwars, its kinda a make'm or breake'm situation. Sure everybody will go and see it. But if EpII failes to do what Empire did for the original trilogy, I would be very dissapointed.
Maybe, Lucas still should have asked Kershner. (:

I think that Episode II will have to be great to regain people's interest because although I liked it, Episode I didn't end up being what people were expecting. I think it started to go away from the style that the original trilogy had. Episode II has to put back the humour and wit that the first ones had to make people care about the third one. Or just put another cliff hanger so people will have to see the third on to know what happens.

Yeah, youre right about the the "style" change. But Lucas must know (after 20 year) what people like about the original trilogy.
I guess Lucas is under great pressure, from fans and (friend)directors alike. So it could go either way.
Personlly, i think that no film in the Star Wars cannon can possibly beat The Empire Strikes Back, it is so atmospheric and the mythos of the story changed considerably, it is my favourite film, and if not one of the great films ever.
To me, Episode One had quite a fake look about it, and the cinematography was quite awful, no atmospheric lighting at all, and the over-use of special effects was laughable. The gungan/Jar Jar story should never have happened, although it was important for the kids.
Episode II is said by producer Rick Mc Callum to be "a much darker story than Episode 1", but i really dont think it will be as dark as Empire.
To me, the darkest Episode in the trilogy should be the third, it is the ending to Star Wars, it should be the ultimate treat to fans and cinema goers alike. I am really looking forward to the battle between Obi Wan and Anakin (i think it is them), where anakin will get burned by something, probably lava, i dont know the story, but i have seen artwork by fans and they portray the battle along rocks in the middle of a volcanic land.
Definately Episode 2 should be superb, and should save the Star Wars films alike, but i doubt very much that any of the new films will ever beat the issues and visuals of Empire Strikes Back. I find it quite amazing, that in the days of seamless computer technology that the 1980's Empire Strikes Back was visually much more astounding thatn Episode 1.
