After looking through this website i havent really found any real discussion about the eventual arrival of the new Star Wars films, so, this is the time before there is any sight of hype.

After the disappointment of Episode I i was just wondering if Star Wars will ever recover from this. What excitement lies in store for us with the next episodes? and will they ever beat Empire Strikes Back?

...i doubt this very much, but i would like to hear some more on the subject, and those of you who hate Star Wars i dont mind you contributing, but dont go over the coals, this discussion is friendly and aims to find out more about the next Episodes of Star Wars.

There's no way Episode 2 will ever be better than Empire.. Although I do think it will be better (story wise) than episode 1. As for visual effects, I can only hope. It will be interesting to see how Anikan's life leads up to the dark side.

I really hope that Episode 2 is a good film and I'm pretty confident that it CAN'T be as bad as Phantom Menace. The screenwriter is better and the film is rumoured to be darker and more adult...

Well, when Jonathan Hales did his interview with the French insider about Ep II's script, he said that the love story between Anakin and Padme would not be all sappy and saccharine and he went on and on enthusiastically about how enjoyable it was to write banter between Obi-Wan and an adult Anakin.

That second part is especially encouraging. How much better would Episode I have been if there had been less Jar-Jar and we had seen a fully developed friendship between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Apparently Jonathan went to great trouble to ensure that the relationship between master and padawan was more real this time. George stifled McGregor (and pretty much everyone else) in EpI--Hales said Ep II's story would allow EM to shine when he's off doing his own thing away from Anakin and Padme.

Hales has won emmy awards for his work, so I'm encouraged.

Thanks for the posts people, much appreciated. I do feel that because of the darker edge that Episode II is meant to have will benefit the story a great deal. Somehow, in the back of my mind i have always thought that Star~Wars would always have been better for a grown up audience, as it deals with issues that adults deal with. Especially the new Episodes, as they deal very much with issues that kids could never understand, but, this wasn't the point of StarWars, and frankly, this bothers me.

According to producer Rick Mc Callum both Episode II and III will be a lot darker than Episode I, let's just hope this makes the films a lot better!

Despite claiming to be a Buddist, Lucas seems very driven by materialsm. Maybe he thinks kids want Ewoks and Jar Jars and other Muppets in these pictures, but I really think it's about marketing toys. The truth is Lucas could focus on romance, action, sci-fi, or puppets and the fans will still show up. People said E:1 was too childish so Lucas has his people throw out a few tidbits about how dark the next two will be. Will they be? Who knows? Will they put butts in theater seats? Yep! Will people complain about how bad they were "all-three-times-I-saw-em"? You-betcha! Will Lucas sell tons of overpriced Boba Fett Action Wrist Launchers? Hell yeah! I hate to say it, but I think he's in it for the money. I mean hey, he's got the Skywalker Ranch to maintain. He's got to feed all of the cows or maybe the banthas. I just don't know...

After seeing some new pics from the set of Episode II everything does indeed seem to have a dark, brooding look to it, and in an interview Ewan Mc Gregor did mention that the film is very well written.
