What does Everyone think of him. Kevin Smith is Silent Bob and the creator of Clerks, MallRats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back....if you didn't know.

Great writer, so-so director, overall very funny and talented individual. (He names his daughter after a character from Batman! How can you dislike someone like that!?) http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I agree with Weapon X. I love Kevin Smith, especially because he's a great writer and actor (Silent Bob, dude!), and an ok director. Can't find a funnier guy than him, that's for sure.

I've become a fan this year. I initially hated "Clerks" (just didn't see what the fuss was about), but always liked "Chasing Amy" and "Dogma." Now I'm a fan of all his films save for "Mallrats," which I'll rewatch sometime. (BTW, this includes the sly "Clerks" animated series as well).

I love Kevin Smith, I love everything he's done and I personally can't wait for Jersey Girl.

My ode to Kevin Smith's 'View Askew' is on this board somewhere.

Let's face it, he rules.

He's not my favorite director, but I gotta give it to him, making "Dogma" sure took balls!

I like his work. He's a funny guy, and I like
his personality as well. Not only is he funny, but he's a smart guy as well.

I had never seen any Kevin Smith movies before I saw Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. I didn't know anything about him or Jay & Silent Bob, and I really didn't expect the movie to be any good. But I was blown away! It was so funny! I'm going to have to rent every one of his movies now.

Silent Bob was my favorite character, by the way.

Kevin Smith is the best. Those are my favorite movies of all time. Too bad the animated series was taken off the air after two episodes. I hear that he is making a Clerks the Animated Movie which will be awesome.

Okay, I admit I didn't care much for "Dogma," although I respect the effort! (it was overlong and bloated)

I'm with Cyclonus on this one. I was really disappointed in Dogma.
Too many jokes just fell flat for me (I'm sorry but making something out of shit does not automatically make it funny) and it lacked the tight plotting of Smith's other films. There are some funny lines in it, but not enough.

That said I LOVE his all other films, I gave Mallrats another look last night (still just as funny).

Chasing Amy is still my favourite though in that he really has something to say and says it in a funny, believeable, way.
I remember showing Amy to my best friend who got so frustrated that he ended up shouting at Holden not to say

'We all have to have sex together'

Has to be a good movie to have that kind of an effect.

And now to Jersey Girl, is it a comedy? If not I'm wary, Smith's talent is really not as a director but as a writer of comedy and I'm not sure he can pull off a straight drama. Does anyone have any info?

I've been a fan of Kevin Smith for years. I was a little dissapointed with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, I just didn't like the fact that most of the character from previous films were reduced to cameos. Banky was an almost unlikeable guy in it and Chris Rock was reduced to playing the stereotypical "angry black guy who hates white people". It did have some of the best movie spoofs in ages, that Good Will Hunting scene was great.

wasn't the chris rock thing ment to be pokeing fun at the fact that thats the character that he always plays?

I've as yet to see a Kevin Smith movie I haven't liked. He's a fantastic writer, an underated director, and has the ability to tell six jokes in fives seconds.

Kevin Smith is superb. Although I haven't seen J+SB Sb yet, I loved all his otheres, even Mallrats which got slated. Admittedly he isn't the best director but damn he's funny. Give credit to Jason Mewes too.

Yes, it had some funny jokes, it just needed some more aggressive editing, otherwise I would have enjoyed it a lot more!
