View Full Version : Tom & Nicole both winning Oscars this year would be ironic...

I was just thinking... wouldn't it be ironic if both Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman both won their first Oscars (period) but for Best Actor and Best Actress in the same year for the first year after seperating and getting a divorce?

Cruise is getting buzz for Vanilla Sky and if the reviews and Box Office totals are a success then he certainly has a shot. And Nicole is a shoo-in for at least a nomination, probably and hopefully a win for The Others.

Did anybody else notice that? Obviously I just noticed it, but I think that would be kinda funny, if that were to happen.

That would be funny, but what would be funnier is if Nicole wins and Tom loses. Nicole was never really a bankable star however with the recent breakup, her last two movies Moulin Rouge and The Others grossed $57 and $96 million respectively. No what would also be funny is if Penelope Cruz gets nominated alongside Nicole and Nicole takes home the award......sorry I just went off http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

I also noticed that Nicole would be receiving the Award from her fellow Australian Russell Crowe. I know Nicole was born in Hawaii but, she grew up and still lives in Australia. I mean it's not everyday that that happens. There are mostly American winners. Well, it is an American Awards ceremony. But, that's still 'ironic'.

That is ironic.....I would like to see her win, she gave the two best female performances of the year thus far IMO

Isn't Russell Crowe kiwi?

A Kiwi is a bird. It can't fly and it has one of those beaks that curve. But, it is a native of New Zealand... an island of the coast of Australia, where Mr. Crowe was born.

I personally like them both, but that's not likely to happen this coming ceremony b/c people are sick and tired of hearing about them!

In your personal opinion do you think either one of them will win. For me, I think Nicole has the better/best shot at winning for The Others. But anyway...since you think it's unlikely I'd like to "hear" your opinion.

Yeah, it would be ironic. But personally I think Nicole Kidman would win (and she fully deserves it), but Tommy boy won't. Just a feeling, though.

I am with James Logan, once again. I think Nicole will (hopefully) be the one to possibly get one.

Well I haven't seen "The Others" but based on what I've heard, yes I do think she has a chance!

Just an interesting follow up, Russel and Nicole were linked to each other in several Austraslian gossip magazines, so should we add some furhter irony? Well how about Nicole gets up on the stage for the award does a bit of a tongue pash with Russ and then an infuriated Tom grabs Penelope and they do a bit of a tongue pash show down. Then an infuriated Meg Ryan gets up on stage and decks Miss. Kidman while an even further infuriated Dennis Quaid goes up to give Mr. Russ a bit of lip. Kidman runs down and decks Penelope while Meg Ryan is still ripping her up. Russel Crowe continues to then smash up everything in the auditorium (as you would expect him to do anyway) while Tom Cruise hides, quite comfortably thanks to his compact size under his, chair.

Tom has no chance to win, his performance in Vanilla Sky was just ordinary.

You're right FreakArtist, he doesn't have a chance to win, but not because his performance was ordinary. He delivered a great performance, but the film is getting mixed reviews. Besides even the more ordinary performances win, (Russell Crowe anyone?) I liked Gladiator and I like Russell Crowe, but anyone could have played that part that way.

It would be ironic, yes, but I doubt it will happen.I doubt any of them will receive even a nomination.
