Star Wars:Episode One was one of the worst movies I saw. If they are Going to make a Stars Ears Episode two Then they should really pick up the pace. I really thought A New Hope,Empire Strikes Back, and Return of The Jedi were good movies though. What are your thoughts?

I loved Star Wars, and I think I loved Empire even more.I think the greatness of the first two,is that they couldnt totally rely on computers. They had to resort to other natural trickery to get the feeling they wanted. Now all they do is say" monster!" and some one lays down a snack and starts computing.I love computer effects ,but it seems like all the monsters look alike now.I think Lucas needs to back away from the digital and computers and do some writing and character development.I hardly found anyone to like or love on episode one.Its hard to like the little kid when you know he will grow up to be a planet killing super villian.I know he changes about 2 minutes before Return ends, but I turned my eyes in the theater when they showed that ugly mug.I had always felt that Dave Prowse would get to show his face ,but according to Lucas he ran his mouth about the script.Every one thinks Lucas is the guy next door, but ask Dave.He can cut like a light saber. It seems the series is a race to see which will have the most computer or digital shit on it.Thats a long way from the idea of Luke swinging across the channel with Leia.Bring back the good old days of the blue screen and real film stock.I'd rather see 50 million dollars of sparse scenery,a few decent effects, and good characters, than 200 million dollars of a Hewlett Packard hard-on.

Jar Jar aside, Episode I was every bit as good as the rest of the series...

Darkness, Ep 1 didn't have it!
The ~Empire Strikes Back is by far my favourite film ever because there was so much atmosphere, so much tension and a great cliff hanger. This film really concentrated on the characters and their feelings and emotions and the cinematography was very good indeed. Ep 1 didn't have any of these qualities, although Ep 2 is meant to be dark, i doubt it will ever be as dark as Empire.
I doubt anything in the Star Wars cannon will ever better The Empire Strikes Back.

The part I loved the most about EP 1 was the part on Tatooine. The pod race was great.Gritty hell bent action. That was use of special effects at its best.I hope part two has plenty of that. The kids pod racing gear and the machines were well thought out. That section of the film outshined everything else.I agree totally about Empire strikes back. That was a special movie.Hoth,AT-AT walkers,Yoda,Lando, epic light saber battle,Asteroids,it had it all.

Yeah Star wars is definiately going down hill .. i think it started with the first movie they made and then just sank lower and lower until they go to the poor standard of episode 1 as well as the other 3

I think only numbers 4 (A new Hope) and 6 (Return...) were worthwhile...

"Phantom Menace" was just a feel-good kid's movie, designed for marketing purposes. /ubb/frown.gif

hi to everyone out their.this is my first post and its very very long.

episode one what can i say that probably hasnt been said.lets start with this...it is far and a away the absolute biggest let down in movie history.i dont know where to start but here goes.(sorry if i talk to much but i feel so strongly about this.)

1.the medichlorians-what an absolutely stupid idea to ruin the mystery and magic of the jedi knights.lucas probably did this because he wanted to have a way for
whoever discovered anakin to prove categorically that he is the most powerful jedi.but why?vader could sense how powerful luke was in starwars so why not keep it like
that
bad idea rating 9/10

2.the robot guards-how f****** weak where they.they couldnt shoot straight they looked like a stiff wind would blow them over.lucas did this because he couldnt have the jedis
killing real people because the kids were going to be watching.rubbish.look at the beginning of jedi when luke is fighting on jabbas barge.hes slicing and dicing all over the place and the fight looks wicked.think of this,if youd have had storm troopers in every scene where the robots were think how good it would have looked.
bad idea rating 7/10

3.gungans-doesnt really need much explaining does it.LUCAS ARE YOU MAD!!! DID YOU NOT DO TEST SCREENS ON ANYONE OVER 8. YOU CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT HES SAYING.HE DOESN'T LOOK OR ACT REAL.CASE IN POINT WATCH HOW HE ACTS IN THE MIDDLE OF A F****** BATTLE FIELD.
bad idea rating 11/10

4.ridiculous lack of any speaking or characterisation for possibly one of the most interesting characters lucas has come up with....DARTH MAUL.why did he not speak to the jedis at the end and why was he not in alot more scenes.sparring with palpatine in a training session would have been amazing.lucas didnt want him to speak probably so can show that he was single minded in his desire to destroy the jedi but screw that.it doesnt make for good viewing.
bad idea rating 8/10

5.not using more sub titles for the alien characters and giving them human voices with
accents.main culprits being the japenese heads of the trade federations.nothing against the accent but one of the things that made the trilogy great was absolutely no connection to the planet earth.it did seem very far away.this is also why it hasnt aged over the years.
bad idea rating 7/10

6.starting out with anakin so young.to cheesy im afraid.accidently destroying the ship at the end i mean come on.should have been about 16 years old.
bad idea rating 6/10

7.tired old plots and holes.having to destroy a ship in space for the third time
in four movies.and lets face it that droid ship was no death star.why did the federation have loads of ships in orbit at the beginning and then take them away at the end.why if palpatine says"wipe them out,all off them" are the droids taking prisoners.
why cant the jedi sense anything from palpatine.mace windu says."i do not believe the sith could have returned with out us knowing." HES STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU.DO YOU FEEL ANYTHING YET.the main aim of a shield is to protect something,to do this to a ship it must completely surround ithow the hell did anakin get inside the droid ship at the end.when the other ships are trying to shoot through he finds a massive hole.hmmmm!
BAD IDEA RATING 8/10

8. Ridiculous lack of realism in what should have been serious situations. The original trilogy are the most realistic portrail of two opposing forces fighting for control of a galaxy. When your watching jabbas palace, the dagobar system or the ice planet hoth you think shit! i wouldnt want to be there that looks dangerous.when your watching the battle at the end of menace you think hey that looks like a laugh avoiding all those balls and jumping on tanks.
compare at-at v snow speeder against that battle and all is revealed.

9.BIGGEST MISTAKE-way to much cgi, awful pacing of story(directing),completely different style of camera work, colouring texture. You could say hey man its 22 years later move on.NO!! the trilogy were great for these reasons.they looked ridiculously real and the picture just looked sharper.
bad idea rating-off the chart.

Finally some plus points
casting off ewan mcgregor and sam jackson.
the destroyers-absolutely wicked.the only thing a jedi could not destroy,a machine that is mobile can continually fire and also genarate its own shield.
seeing yoda again.
the look of the pod race.
the speed of some of the moves in the final light saber duel.(could have been better)

i could seriously go on alot more about this
but i wont for now.if your still reading this rant i thank you.if you got bored half way im sorry but it did p*** me off.
please tell me if theirs anything i missed.

very well said Kramer. I agree with your opinion 100%. I always wanted to post my feelings about Episode 1 but I was just too lazy.

That is by far the best summing up that i have heard from someone of their opinion on Episode I.

But, Lucas intended the Droids to be weak because the Emperor relises they are weak and they slowly evolve through Ep II and III into the Stormtroopers, who, let's face it, were also crap.
