another long post im afraid ....
im a massive x men fan and think that our mutant buddies are one of the greatest stories that could be put to movie(or telly if theirs an exec out their with half a brain).although the budget for the first movie was restricting (even at £70 million)
their were two many things that didnt add up.first though i'll give the plus points because their were quite a few.

The greatest casting in a comic book movie ever.every character was just how you'd want them to be.boy o boy did jackman and paquin nail their roles and the chemistry between the two was incredible.mystique also looked incredible and her fight with wolverine was brilliantly realistic.
excellent visualisation and capturing of the spirit of the comics especially by having the rogue story pre-powers(room for development).the look of the clothes the school and amazingly the black bird were spot on.for the most part the powers looked good.cyclops beams and wolverines claws sharing joint top.

now the bad parts..
where was all the flying.magneto and storm hardly used that side of their powers at all. This is a really important part of the characters look.it would have to look effortless and real not like the old superman movies but bryan singer has to pull it off for the next one.if you want to have an idea of what it might look like check out the video to a song called "fly like a bird" by nelly something.their are snippets in there that look pretty cool.

The awful magneto plot that had absolutely no substance what so ever.the science of what he was doing was never even remotely explained, making something spin really fast with his powers and it sends out this magic mutating wave come on.Also its the old meeting of all the world leaders chestnut.please!!

so anyway its stylish directing and brilliant casting that barely makes up for a non existant plot.what does everyone else think?

also who do you think should be in the next movie? my personal fav would be robert de niro as sinister or apocalypse providing he isnt completely cgi and looks wicked.
just to here him say that line
"i am as far beyond mutants as mutants are beyond humans"
any thoughts movie buffs? bye

Yeah, i liked this film very much, although some of the special effects were a bit dodgy to say the least.

My two favourite parts to the whole film was the opening sequence of Magneto in the prisoner of was camp and the scene in which Eric and Charles, after watching that senator guy speaking, talk to eachother, Eric saying "i only ask you one thing old friend, don't get in my way". Ian McKellen looked absolutely amazing here, the cinematography was excellent, with the partically darkened face etc.

My major dissapointment with this film, was, as you said, the plot. Most of the characters seemed pretty crappy too, especially Mystique, and the senator.
But, worst of all was the casting of Sabretooth. He just seemed to dumb, stupid, and not frightening like he should have been. I was really expecting an amazing duel between him and Wolverine, but it didn't happen, just a little scrap that's all.

Also, the budget restrictions damaged the whole film. The ending by the Statue of Liberty, i thought, wow, we are really going to see Magneto rip this thing to bits with his powers, but he never does, logically, why would he? but it would have been amazing to see, but this couldn't have been integrated into the story (or lack of) because of the meagre budget.

Jackman was spot on, fully realising the best character, McKellen, as always, was brilliant, i am glad they chose an older person, it just seemed to fit in better and Patrick Stewart was excellent, there was a fine chemsitry between him and McKellen which worked well. The endind, inside thwe plastic prison, him and Magneto play chess, the battle of the mind, better than any physical battle was the most though provoking aspect of the whole movie.

As for X Men 2, i can only hope Gambit and Beast wikll be in it. Beast being totally CGI, with either Anthony Hopkins doing his voice or Charlton Heston. Gambit should be played by Viggo Mortensen too, i think.
