Ok. Here is what I've been thinking about lately. If the Matrix 2 & 3 kick ass like I expect them to then they might become the star wars trilogy of our time.

Check it out. Neo is kinda like Luke Skywalker. Luke was THE ONE who will restore order to the galaxy, Neo is THE ONE in the matrix who will restore mankind to their right place. Luke and all the other Jedi have THE FORCE, which gives them kind of special powers and skills, knowledge and insight that no one else has. Neo and the others have kind of special powers, knowledge and insight that others don't have. Luke has stronger special powers then the other ones and so does Neo. They are both heroes who started out as normal guys totally oblivious to the fact that it is their destiny to save their respective people from the tyranny of the dark side or the a.i. robots, which are kinda like the dark side.

All the agents can be like storm troopers and if anyone Agent Smith is Darth Vader, but maybe that's taking it to far.

Morpheus is maybe Obi Wan because he taught Neo about who he is and why he's important just like Obi Wan did to Luke. He also taught him the force and Morpheus kinda helped teach Neo how to use his new knowledge and kung fu. Also in the middle of the movie Obi Wan was killed but he was still around. I guess Morpheus got taken away kinda the latter middle of the movie and he came back just like Obi Wan <- maybe thats taking it to far also.

Maybe The Oracle is Yoda too.

There's probably other similarities too.

Let me know what you think!!!!!

The actress that played the Oracle is dead so that character is over.

But it will never happen, the movies will never be as big as even EPI-III let alone the original SW trilogy.

The Matrix had a good twist and inovative special effects but that was about it.

It did not touch my soul like SW did.

If I had to pick a new SW trilogy and that is a big if, I would have to give it to LOTR as that is at least a sweeping Epic of a story based on an all time Modern Classic.

I like the Matrix and am looking forward to the next ones but they will never be anywhere close the the original SW.

Out...........

Both films are dealing with archetype storylines and archetype characters. This basic story has been around for thousands of years, and the same similarities can be found in countless of films.

A young, ordinary guy becomes The One to save the world from evil tyranny. He starts from an idyllic, safe life and to travels dangerous adventures. He learns from an old master/guru that he has special skills and the master teaches him wisdom and ways to overcome his weaknesses. There is the all-powerful villain who must be defeated. Often the old master is killed by the villain and the hero has to revenge his death, but this is not always the case.

That's one of the archetype storylines of myths and fairytales, and both SW and Matrix are drawing their inspiration from the same sources.

The writers all probably have the same agent as that guy who wrote the New Testament. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

MATRIX wasn't all that revolutionary to me. So I agree with Common Sense Man, I'd rather bet on LOTR to become the trilogy of our time the same way STAR WARS was the trilogy of its time.

I finally got around to seeing LOTR. I left the theatre with the same feeling I did in 1977 after seeing Star Wars. Like it or not, it has that same "epic feeling". While the Matrix and sequals may be good movies, IMO LOTR will be remembered as this generation's Star Wars.

I knew this would turn into another LOTR-beats-all topic. I think that the LOTR trilogy will be more popular than The Matrix trilogy, but I think that The Matrix trilogy will be better. Maybe not by much, but I think it will be. (Although I think all three will be definitely be considered among the best trilogies of all time)

I've always loved the story behind The Matrix. The story is completely flawless and it really gets my imagination going. Because of it, the movie improves with every viewing. The LOTR story is a great one too. I'm reading the books now, and they really did help me appreciate the movie more, but at the same time made me realize the story could've been better.

The Matrix - 9/10
LOTR:FOTR - 8/10, but probably will be a 9/10 after next viewing

For the record, the actress who originally played the Oracle is dead, but that character certainly is not. They'll just get a new actress. Just as the guy who originally played Tank will not return, they are just going to get somebody else to play him.

I don't know, The Godfather and Indiana Jones Trilogies still carry alot of weight. How about Top 5?
