All the hubbub over how "real" the story told in A BEAUTIFUL MIND is ... it's totally starting to irritate me.

I just read a news article about a woman Nash dated before Alicia. They had a son together. But he dated Alicia at the same time he was dating this other woman and married Alicia. She's now pissed off because SHE was edited out of the movie.

I think it's more like she's pissed off because she's not getting anything out of it.

I mean come ON! Why are some people so critical of how "real" a movie is? Yes, this movie was based on his life but BASED ON doesn't have to mean a TOTALLY TRUE AND ACCURATE portrayal does it? No. That's my opinion - no it doesn't.

If they had put all the bisexuality and other women and the divorce and other stuff in it we would have been sitting there for 10 hours at least!

Why don't some people just understand and accept that sometimes filmmakers need to find focus when making a movie. People want to focus on one thing in particular which is what this movie did. I think if they'd included bits and pieces of the other stuff it would have been a choppy mish-mosh.

Yes the movie was semi-biographical. Why can't people just accept that? Why do people get pissed off that the movie can't exactly be used as research material into exactly what was going on in Nash's life?

I'd like to see all these whiners and complainers make a better movie. Let's see all that stuff put into a movie. And lets see the crap it looks like when you're done.

I agree. I wish people would get off the films case about how accurate it is. That's not the fuckin point. Crowe said it best himself during his Golden Globe acceptance speech. At the end of the day it's just a piece of entertainment. That's it. I don't care how true it was to his life. I thought the movie was entertaining with great performances and an interesting story etc. etc.

I was one of the few that didnt like this film....but it was for a slightly different reason.

I previously posted my own rant here:

For some reason, this movie didnt really hit me as realistic. I thought that the story itself was rather implausible and unbelievable (as it was depicted). Keep in mind that a story that is retold is not necessarily true. Yes, John Nash got a Nobel Prize. Yes, he was married. Yes, he was schizophrenic. However, when it comes to fine detail, I didnt buy it and it didnt strike me the right way. There is a difference between cutting out things for "focus" and conjuring up cliched b/s. (Note that I didnt really touch on the specific example that you mentioned about Nash's ex...I agree with you to an extent on that one).

Do I have the right to "whine"? I believe I do... If I were to rave about this movie like everyone else, then I wouldnt really be honest to myself.

I belive that you just took the words right out of my mouth! That was very nicely put and I couldn't agree more. I hear all these "real" critics talk about how real ABM is and I just want to say "Get Over It". I think that ABM is an excellant movie and I don't care how real it seemed. I didn't go to the movie wanting to know every little detail about Nash's life, because I don't care. I went to it to be entertained and to be sucked in by the story and thats exactly what happened. IMO I think that this movie deserves nothing but praise.

I'm basically talking about a lot of media stories I've read where it's being criticized for not being the FULL truth. I've read numerous stories about how the Academy shouldn't vote for it for best picture because it wasn't the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

It's that which I'm annoyed with. As for generally not liking a movie that's totally cool - I have no gripes with people for that. To each his own.
