View Full Version : The Mummy 1 & 2 -- written into a corner?

While watching The Mummy on DVD recently, I thought that maybe the makers of the film had written themselves into a corner by making the Mummy as the chief protagonist against Brendan Fraser's character in both this film and the sequel.

If they would have introduced another character in the sequel, perhaps the films would have stood up better as a franchise rather than rehashing the same characters over and over. Any thought or comments?

They should have made it like the Indiana Jones sequels and change the big bad guy. They should've kept it into egyptology, cut the crap about the Scorpion King and all that shit with Rick's tattoo, and it wouldn't have been such a bad movie.

That's what I meant in my original post. By focusing too much on the mummy and Egypt, the makers really limited the movies. It had the possibility of being an Indiana Jones-type of franchise. After The Mummy, they should have placed the characters in a different locale.

If there is one thing I know about movies its this.

No matter what you think the story is never over.

The plot could be totally wrapped up in a nice little bow with no where else to go and sure enough they will make a sequel that is acutally a prequel or use some other crapy twist to reopen the story.

Highlander 2 anyone!

As long as the studio thinks it can make money all the main characters could die and they would make a sequel.

Out..........................

A major problem lies ahead in Hollywood now, this problem lies in the very word - Prequel. They've already applied it to The Scorpion King.
It's just another excuse in my books...
