...Under Suspcicion's ending. Anyone got any theories? It left my brother and myself scratching our heads, and I haven't seen a single post which goes into any detail about squat, though in JoBlo's review he does mention he has a theory of his own, I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has seen the flick...

I'm sorry about the previous message, but I couldn't get the body of my mesage to come up far enough down the page to keep anybody from looking and catching the spolier without meaning to.

Okay, do you mean the fact that Hackman confessed to something he didn't do?

Well, Hackman confesses to the crime in front of his wife (behind the two-way mirror), then we find out someone else did it, so they let Hackman and his wife go, they go and sit on opposite park benches...fade out. The characters also acted as if this was matter-of-fact, did I miss something or what? What was going on there?

First off, I have to say: Under Suspicion is a really good film. I think it went straight to video. If not, it had a very limited release. Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman were both really spectacular (best Hackman work I've seen in a while. It reminded me of why I used to like him so much, before he started being quite so ubiquitous.) This film doesn't get released to theatres, but Freddy Got Fingered does... When I saw it on Cinemax, they had interview segments w/ both of them, talking about the film, and from what they said, I think the idea was that Hackman was so beaten down and demoralized by the latest bad turn his marriage to Monica Bellucci (crass insertion here: MONICA BELLUCCI http://www.joblo.com/ubb/tongue.gif !!), that he went ahead and confessed. I think also the things that Freeman had wrung out of him during the interrogation, about how much he liked little girls, and how vain and (ultimately) absurd he was, all combined to cause him to confess, just to get it over with. The scene after, on the bench, where she tries to approach him and apologize for doubting him, and he isn't ready to hear it yet, I think that signifies that they don't have such a promising future together, and they both know it. At least that's my take on it. Really good film.

Could be my memory, but I believe that when I rented and viewed UNDER SUSPICION months ago on video, the park scene at the end wasn't included. It ended with Gene Hackman's confession. I could be wrong, cause I haven't seen the film in a while.
