Not to rub this in the face of JoBlo and the other schmoes here, but I thought it was cool.

I submitted an entry into "Film Comment's" Reader's Poll Best of 2001, and some of my comments were quoted in the March/April issue. The article isn't online yet, but I'll put a link up. For now though, here's my quote:

"A story that failed to grab hold, and a soundtrack that did a great, grating disservice to the classic pop songs it contained." -Brian Skutle on "Moulin Rouge"

Yeah, you hated Moulin Rouge and made it public. It's nothing to be proud of, you're just looked at as a freak now.

No, I actually really liked that. It's funny, isn't it? The performances had real fire to them- bringing the feeling of the words and story to life- and the visual style didn't bother me.

Moulin Rouge was just an overblown MTV video stretched to 2 hours,it really seemed like 3 it was so loud and obnoxious.Oh did i mention boring too? That's not cinema, that's an assault on the senses.

Moulin Rouge is one of my few 10/10's and one of my favorite movie, but nobody loses credibility in my eyes for not liking it. (Is that what you meant, Stripes?)

Anyway, it's very cool that one of your quotes made it, bskutle. Too bad I completely disagree with it. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

well obviously oscar voters did not think it, along with all the critics that named it the best film of the year! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I LOVED IT AND WILL DEFEND IT TILL KINGDOM COME!!!
