View Full Version : Am I the only one who's pissed that The Others was basically ignored at The Oscars?

This is easily the most underrated film of 2001. Spooky, creepy, and in my opinion, better than The Sixth Sense. I think Nicole Kidman gave a better performance in this movie than she did in Moulin Rouge.
It was getting decent word of mouth when it first came out, but now everyone has forgotten about it.

bitch,
I cannot agree more with you. The Others was not one of my top 10 favorites, but it was damn good. I defenitly deserved noms in the following catagories (imo!)
~ Best Actress (not over moulin rouge though)
~ Best Supporting Actress - Fionua Flanigan
~ Best Cimenatography
~ Best Screenplay
~ Best Art Direction
possible others:
best sound
best makeup
best costume
the others grade: 9/10

The Others was possibly the best movie of 2001. It is beyond me why it was never chosen for an award. I think Nicole Kidman did much better in that than in Moulin Rouge. I think that it is SO dumb that the assholes in the acadamy decided it wasn't good enough or whatever the hell they were thinking. I'm with you bitch...The Others should have been at least nominated.

My favorite movie of 2001 and I was thoroughly pissed that no one from the flick got anything from the ol' foggies...oh well...keep that Oscar crap turning, I guess...(not to mention how MEMENTO got fee-yucked as well)

Well seeing as there were so few nominees for best sound and best sound editing -- It seems all the more stupid that this amazing movie wasn't nominated for anything. The audio in The Others was outstanding.

Yes, I also thought the audio in The Others was amazing.
There was no flashy soundtrack, or "boom boom" explosions like in Pearl Harbor, but the sound overall in the film was so effectively used and enhanced the atmosphere wonderfully.

It should have easily been nominated for...
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Original Screenplay
Best Actress in a Leading Role
Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Best Cinematography
Best Art Direction/Set Decoration
Best Costume Design
Best Editing
Best Original Score
Easily TEN nominations right there.

Feelings on the Others are way too mixed. That's why it didnt get any nominations.
I like the movie... except for the ending.
I also have no desire to watch it again anytime soon.

Agreed. Nicole Kidman, while outstanding in Moulin Rouge, was better in The Others and should've gotten a nomination for that performance instead. The picture itself, though predictable, was definitely Oscar-worthy.

I really enjoyed The Others (I gave it an 8/10), and I have a feeling I'll like it even more when I see it again, but if I were choosing five nominees for each of the categories, it would probably just miss it most of the time. If I could nominate for the same person for two performances, I would have nominated Nicole for her part in Moulin Rouge and for her part in The Others. However, I think she was just a tad better in Moulin Rouge...

I totally agree, I think that the Others was better than Moulin Rouge, and Nicole Kidman definitely should have had a best actress oscar for that film. In fact I think that it should have one best director too.

It was #1 on ThereWolf's top ten of last year, an elegant and spooky film, with a magnificent performance by Nicole Kidman!
How the hell it ever dropped just below the radar of the Oscars is beyond ThereWolf!

I dunno... Maybe nods for BEST DIRECTOR and BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY.
but BEST PICTURE? not really.
if MEMENTO ain't gettin' the nod, this one ain't gettin' it either.
