Hi I recently watched Donnie Darko and aboslutely loved. It took me about a day to figure it out but it was so moving, so well acted, and beautiful to look at.
Now before I ask my question you have to know something about me. I dont care for David Lych. I only loved two movies from him: Blue Velvet and Twon Peaks the TV show. For most of his movies I think his weirdness gets so overwhelming that I dont care about the plot and cahraters but just whats going on. Im not saying hes a bad director. Even in Mudholland Drive which I didnt care for it was still beautifully directed.
To me Donnie Darko had many David Lynch elements but I thought it was way better than any David Lynch movie

Any theories on the flick? I know many people interpret it several different ways.

Spoilers!!!!!!!
The movie was all about a time travle paradox and alternate reality. Donnie was meant to die in the accident. When he didnt his split off into a reality that was not meant to be. his life for October the 3rd to the 31st was living on borrowed time. Everything he did during that time was aiming toward two things. Getting his parents on the plane and in the air so the engine can fall t hrough the wormhole and onto his house. Aldo it was important he meet Geba Malone so she will die and he will shoot Frank in the idea. The whole movie is
about predestination and fate.

Another case of someone responding to something they didn't read.
PS - I thought the same thing, but when i took the time to read chinton's post, I realized what he meant.
I see where you are coming from with these comparisons, Chinton -- Donnie Darko could almost be called a Lynch movie for teens. IMHO.

I really dug the whole E.T. angle of it, especially at the end when they all hop on their bikes, Donnie complete with his hooded sweatshirt and take off, that part was pretty cool.

Yes, Richard Kelly directed Donnie Darko (my dvd is right infront of me!) and lol it did seem like E.T. for a little bit! LOL! And anyway I believe the Flick Foloshipher (misspelled! i know!) wrote: "Donnie Darko is what Ferris Bullers Day Off whould have been if David Lynch got his hands on it!" lol!

thats a great description: Ferris Buelers dircted by David Lynch. Also I never thought of the E.T. comparisions but now I see them
