Although I generally don't give a shit what the critics think, if I had to pick, a movie would at least have to be at 35%.

While I go to rottentomatoes a lot, I don't think I've ever decided NOT to see a movie based on their ratings. I have decided I was interested in a movie because of what critics have said. In trying to predict how a movie will do at the box office, I'd say it has to have at least 60% have a chance of making the bucks.

I watch a movie when Bernadelli, Ebert, and Joblo all are in favor of a film. They approach movies in 3 similar, yet different ways and when they are in agreement, I know that I am in for something special.

This is not, of course, a strict rule for me, for films that I am uncertain on, this functions as a good rule of thumb.

I go to movies to make my own opinion on them and generally do not care if the movie is getting bad buzz or not. I like to make my own decisions on movies.

Naturally, Id like to go see every movie that I can, but I dont have the time or money to do so. I guess thats a reason critics do what they do?

It doesn't have to have any rating for me. If I wanna see a movie, I see it, regardless of what anyone else thought

It doesn't matter; whatever I'm interested in, I'll try to get to.

I could care less how a movie is doing on Rotten Tomatoes. Doesn't effect my choice at all. I'll see it if I want to no matter what.

I read reviews, but they don't influence me at all. I don't know what makes me like a movie or not. It must be the entire mix.

I can be wrong sometimes. I thought I was going to hate LEGALLY BLONDE, but I ended up seeing it twice. It was almost as funny as CLUELESS.

What critics do to me is raise or deflate expectations. They don't stop me from seeing a movie I'm looking forward to seeing, but my heart sinks just a bit if they trash it. If they like it, I get more excited about seeing it. However, they never influence my response to a movie. I've liked movies they hated and have hated movies they liked. But rarely have my expectations lived up to the critical hype. Movies tend to be overrated or underrated.

I dont wanna call anyone liars, but anyone who says that they dont care what critics say about a movie, is well,.....full of it. I mean, you may not do it with all movies, but there are movies where we will decide wether to see it or not based on critical response. Ill go to RT and read their reviews, and see whats up with the film, and if it sounds good, ill go see it. And if my girlfriend wants to go see a movie, ill tell her we`ll go see it if it is at least 60% - and if it is,....well, I say it isnt. But than we go anyways, cause I cant lie, and all that. Anyways, the moral of the story - dont smoke ass.

Okay, I know I seem to be the anti-critic of the boards. It's just that I think the majority of critics are a little unfair on movies whose sole purpose is to entertain the audience.

However, if a movie I'm looking forward to, like Spiderman, receives excellent reviews, then I admit that I seem to get excited for it.

However, there have been LOTS of movies that I loved, but the critics hated, and ones that I hated, but the critics loved.

Ones I loved:

Deep Impact
End of Days
Resident Evil
Blade 2

Ones I hated:

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Beautiful Mind
Gosford Park

For me, I just see movies if they interest me. Or if they've done really well at the box office. Sometimes I'll see a movie if it gets great reviews like Frailty, for instance. I probably wouldn't see it, but since it got a whopping 9/10 from Jo and a great review, I'll probably give it a rental 5 months from now.

I'm with moviedude. I go to see because of how I think it looks, not because of critics or ratings from these kind of websites.

A critics opinion is something I NEVER read until after I have seen a movie that interests me. This is one thing in my life that I can do for ME. Who cares what someone else thought of a movie!

If I went with critics words, I would not own some of my favorite DVD's!

I live in Australia so I don't know shit about RT.

I dont give a flying fuck at a donut what critics think. When I was younger I did, not anymore.

I will give you a good example. "American Beauty" was a movie that critics fell over themselves to praise.

Now, when I saw that movie I thought it was mediocre, if you take away the swearing, drugs, murder and budding teenage serial killer you have a very conventional mid life crisis comedy with all the usual cliches.

But critics are so desparate for a meaningful film, I guess they will take what they can get.

It all just proves to me (yet again) how pretensious and stupid most critics are.

I dont smoke my own ass either.
