This is today's poll question over at the IMDb and I'm curious to hear what you Schmoes think.
The question is: "Which of these films, which garnered a Best Actress Oscar® for its leading lady, will be the most obscure to people twenty years from now?"
Monster's Ball (Halle Berry) Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts) Boys Don't Cry (Hilary Swank) Shakespeare in Love (Gwyneth Paltrow) As Good As It Gets (Helen Hunt) Fargo (Frances McDormand) Dead Man Walking (Susan Sarandon) Blue Sky (Jessica Lange) The Piano (Holly Hunter) Howard's End (Emma Thompson)

It's really an obscure question to tell you the truth. I think they mean which best actress winner is the most obscure as to why they won in the first place.
Jessica Lange got an incredibly large amount of the votes. I think it's because Blue Sky was just an okay film and nothing special. Certainly not Oscar-worthy (sorta like Denzel Washington's win for Training Day).
I chose Holly Hunter in THE PIANO because I thought they were talking about like the meaning of the film or what the film is about and THE PIANO is this sort of arty film to begin with. I didn't understand the question at the time. I still might be wrong, but what do they mean by obscure? Like obscure about what? You know?

I think what the question means is which of these Best Actress wins is the most likely to make people 20 years from now say "Why the f*ck did she win?".
I could be wrong, too.

I think it's asking what's the worst movie of the bunch. It is poorly worded.

But then why is Hilary Swank at #2. She was incredible in Boy's Don't Cry. She deserved to win even though I would have voted for Annette Bening in American Beauty, but that's just me. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif
Unless people are being a bunch of homophobes because she plays a woman with a sexual identity problem? Ya never know. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

i'll answer it so i cover both possibilities of the question. the most obscure films that garnered best actress wins will probably be the piano and boys dont cry. the one that will make you think why the hell did she win imo opinion will be julia roberts in erin brokovich.

Blue Sky, without a doubt. You'd have to be a pretty with-it fan now to remember that she won for that film. It sat on the shelf for several years. Hard to build much of a following when nobody ever sees it, unlike the typical "Oscar-worthy" (although that definition has been stretched pretty thin by the worthless likes of Erin Brockovich) film which has: an initial release, often a post-nomination re-release to capitalize on the nomination, a spell as a video/DVD/Pay-per-view moneymaker, and then on the HBO/Cinemax, Showtime/TMC or Starz! I think Julia's (and, lonely opinion that this might be, Kevin Spacey's for American Beauty), are likely to be looked at like those for Art Carney in '74, the Best Picture for Oliver! SHUDDER..., and the legendary screwing of Raging Bull in favor of Ordinary People: kind of like eccentric relatives, there but considered impolite to notice or comment upon.
