I just finished watching Vanilla Sky for the umpteenth time and I want to know, what is the name of the picture that Tom Cruise talks to Penelope about? I know it's a Monet, but when I did a search on "Monet-Vanilla Sky" nothing came up. Im assuming that the picture has a different name and that Vanilla Sky was just used for the movie. I really like the painting and I am wanting to put it as a wallpaper on my computer. Thanks to anyone who can help me, I appreciate it.

I don't know, but this question has been on the board before. You might try searching for the question...

All I know about the picture is that I think it's a meadow with flowers and stuff and the sky is a very beautiful vanilla color, hence the name of the movie.

I haven't seen Vanilla Sky yet but I'm a huge fan of Monet and have a bunch of books here at home I could flip through.

Can you describe it anymore? Is there a person in the meadow at all or is it just a landscape?

Apparantly I suck as posting links or found ones that I couldn't link too. Grr.

But do a general search on Monet and see if you can find it that way. I don't think any of his paintings have "vanilla" in the title. So you will have to go on sight.

My guess is that it's one of the poppy field paintings judging by the description.

Unfortunately, the view of the picture in the movie isn't that great. Its a side shot and its hard to tell what all the picture contains. If it was a head on shot of the picture then I could better describe it. I wish I was able to take a picture with my DVD player and put it on here and then someone might know, but I cant. If anyone has seen the movie and is also a Monet fan (you never know!!) then maybe they could figure out what the picture is.

But have you looked at any website to see if any of his paintings look familiar and tried to compare them yourself? I'm curious now... what part of the movie is this in? I might have to go and rent it.

It's during the birthday party scene when David and Sophia go upstairs and he is showing her his snowboard that he painted. She becomes interested in a picture hanging on his wall and he explains that its a Monet, and that it was his mothers favorite painting and that its called "Vanilla Sky". The name is fake, but I've gone through sites that have Monet wallpapers and the closest picture I've found is called "Monet Les Coquelicots" and its at this web address: www.artprintcollection.com/monet_eur_1500-11369.html (http://www.artprintcollection.com/monet_eur_1500-11369.html)
It looks similar to the one in the movie, but im not quite sure if its the same. Im unable to check and see because I had to take the video back to the store this morning.

I can take screen captures from movies on my computer. I'll post a picture from the movie when I get home from school.

OK... so it is one of the poppy field pictures then. He had a few of them. Is it maybe one of these?

I'm looking up movie info now too and I'm more and more curious because all over people are referring to this as Monet's Vanilla Sky painting.

No, its none of the ones aforementioned. I own the DVD of VS and it is featured at the title screen. Unfortunately, I cant take a picture of it or anything, so it is heard for me to be specific. I searched through online Monet galleries and couldn't find it. Maybe it is a made-up painting by a different artist?

Hmm... link isn't working.

One thing I noticed in my searches for this is that some websites that discuss the movie say it's a painting by Monet and others say it's a painting by Manet. These are two different artists though they knew each other. In fact Manet painted a picture of Monet and his wife I believe.

So far though I can't find any great Manet sites that show anything "vanilla" like. And that poppy picture was a Monet for sure.

I'm so confused. :P I might have to go get the DVD now.

I figured that was the case. My ftp program isn't working so I am unable to upload the picture to my web server. I had to rely on geocities. Anyways, if any of you are interested in the picture email me and I will send it to you.
