I saw this a little while back, and I think it's actually being released later this month, but it was awesome. The music was ridiculous. I have been playing it over in my head for a while, but I never dropped anything on the boards. Did anyone see it??

I have not had a chance to see the flick yet, as it has only had limited screenings. It was well received in Seattle, where John Cameron Mitchell snagged best actor honors at the recently completed Seattle Independent Film Festival.
This actually started out as a play, here in New York City.It took up residence at the Jane Street Theater, and packed them in for quite some time.I had the pleasure of seeing it on several occaisions, and I was blown away by Mr.Mitchell's performance each time. His energy, and maniacal stage presence, was awesome.I'm sure he brings the same verve to the movie version, because this work is his labor of love.
This is a Punk rock musical in the purest sense of the word, with a kick ass soundtrack, killer riffs, and profound lyrics.
"Rocky Horror" it ain't...trust me on that, kiddies.
Interesting side note to this...
As Mr.Mitchell was busy preparing his film, Ally Sheedy(yes,Brat Packer Ally)stood in as Hedwig for a spell. She did great box office at first, simply by virtue of the curiousity factor.
I saw one of her first performances, and I thought she was great. She was absolutely anorexic(this was around the time she was filming "High Art"), and assumed the liquid perfection of the "elegantly wasted" look that was so vital to Hedwig.A schoolmate of mine was working on the production, and she scored me backstage access.I got to meet Ally after one of the shows, and she was very down to earth, and appreciative of the compliments. No pretense to her at all.
Ms.Sheedy gave it a valiant go, but her portrayal was royally panned by the New York theater press, and she was dismissed after only a month or so.Oh well...
Anyway, I look forward to the flick very much.Along with the Thora Birch vehicle "Ghost World"(Thora won Best Actress in Seattle), it is one to anticipate if you are not a fan of the "BLOCKBUSTER!!!" shit Hollywood insults us with every summer.

It's the closing film for the Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (Monday, July 16th) and also the Philadelphia premiere. I've heard that it will probably open later in the year.
