Almost the best cinematography I've ever encountered, directed by Richard Attenborough (better known for his on-screen role as JOHN HAMMOND in Jurassic Park).
Also, the war scenes rival those of S.P.R. and Gladiator in sheer scope.
Aside from Ryan O'Neal, the acting is immaculate.
Tell me what YOU think.

You have to give props to John Ratzenberger too who would later go on to star as Cliff Claven in cheers. You have to watch closely but he's there during a part when they are in boats crossing a river.
And for all you PCU fans this was the film that completed the Caine/Hackman theory.
I thought it was a pretty good war flick. I wouldn't call it a classic though. There are many others I'd rank ahead of it. Again this is not to say I thought it was a bad movie, but just not as good as things like Saving Private Ryan and others. I thought it ran a little long and had some slow parts.

I love this movie! It is a great very underrated war film....about a failed allied mission?! How often is that a topic of any war film?! Features great all-star cast and some of the coolest battles ever...just a great film 9/10
