Most of us can safely say the trailer has some impact on our choice to see a film or skip it. I think a big example of bad marketing is "Me,Myself, and Irene". Some people went to see it because the trailer made it look like a more "Liar,Liar" type film and not "Dumb and Dumber" and when it was full of gross jokes they disliked it and gave it bad-word-of-mouth. Then those who love gross jokes thought it was clean and didn't see it. Does anyone else know an example of poor marketing?

THE MEXICAN comes to mind. the trailers did this movie almost absolutely no justice. it seemed like Dreamworks tried to market this as a cute comedy, but the trailer had too much of a HUDSON HAWK feel to it.

But the movie turned out to be almost nothing like that. it was like they didn't put any of the snappy dialogue in the trailer, and the movie itself had an edgy feel to it.

for trailers that have almost all the best parts of the movie on it ? well, this case was just the opposite. there were absolutely no decent parts on this trailer.

Ransom,What lies beneath, and the pledge either gave away too much or just flat out lied about the kind of movie it was
Unbreakable was genius because it gave nothing away
---question did anyone else notice in the 6th sense trailer there is a quick cut of bruce willis almost getting hit by a van, but the van honks and swerves at the last second.Obviously this wasnt in the movie because it would ruin it, nonetheless if that scene was filmed purely for the trailer that is genius...

The trailor i'm about to talk about is the exact opposite. The trailor looks great and the movie doesn't quite cut it. It's The Beach. THe trailor to this movie looked wicked and it was kind of false advertising considering the trailor showed one thing but the movie was way different then what they showed. Ie:When Leonardo said "I will not die today." in the trailor they made it look like he was talking about the natives that were chasing them off the island when in fact it he was talking about the shark. This movie had it's moments and i didn't mind paying the movie fee for it, but it just couldn't make up it's mind.

Fight Club (yes, I'm posting about Fight Club *again*) was the biggest victim of poor marketing I've ever seen. The trailers made it out to be nothing more that some macho action movie, when it was, in fact, one of the most brilliant and intelligent movies of the last 30 years. The general public had no clue what the real deal was, and I'd even go so far as to say that the bad TV spot where partially responsible for the subsequent Oscar snubs /ubb/mad.gif!

Well, I think we got a pretty bad trailer with SPIDERMAN, even though the posters look good...did you see those CGI effects?

Well what did you think they were going to do for special effects huh???? Suspention wire and blure screen. Come on. Now a days CG is really the only way to do effects that are that specific. DUHHHHH.

Yeah, it seems the way with alot of movies these days, the whole reason I didnt go out and see The Mexican was because the trailer over here in the U.K. made it out to be some lame chick flick, I'd have been pushed to see it just for Brad Pitt, thanks but no thanks. I'll just wait for the video.
Strangley enough though, its almost as if they put all the best clips into trailers for SHIT movies and leave all the good stuff out of the half decent stuff.

Me, Myself and Irene, I had no interest in it whatsoever, when I was forced to get the video I was dumbstruck, I had no idea it was going to be as enjoyable as it was, and yes, I guess I dig all that nasty un-PC shit. Actually, now that I think about it, most of Jim Carreys movies have dodgy trailers... The Mask is a prime candidate, absolute pile of crap movie, however, the trailer included only the scenes that had all the CGI, so you may aswel not have seen the film, the trailer was enough.

I too thought The Beach was going to be OK, after seeing that De-Caprio scene, but in the end didnt make the move cos I think Leo sucks A$$.

But lets face it, its hard to decide what films to see solely on the trailer, personally, I'm going to go and see a film on the strength of wether I feel like i want to see it or not, and its a genre I enjoy, and look to the trailer as a back-up option.

I just hope Spiderman lives up to the hype and the trailer, but then again, I'd see that anyway.
I've been waiting for that film for a damn long time, and the trailer made me pee, the only movie I know to date that has a trailer that kicks A$$ over most flicks out at the moment. But I'm a kid at heart!
