That teaser did rock! I am suprised that showed so much of Spidey. I thought they would have like a black screen and a spider web and thats all. But da man Sam Raimi(if you are not fan rent "The Evil Dead" and call me in the morning) gave us a tense robbery and the hero himself slinging from building to building. I liked how they kept you in suspence what movie it was. I thought it was going to be a robbery flick but when you see that giant web the whole audience was like "cool and finally". I can't wait for this film. It is sure to be a blockbuster. My friend thought Spidey looked obviously cgi do you guys that? I don't.

And I thought they could not pull it off as cool as I imagined it. I am talking about spidey web slinging thru the city. It looks phat.
I am now awaiting teasers for THE MATRIX: RELOADED.
-Junior-
I thought Spider-Man looked CGI, yes. Although, i'm sure he isn't entirely rendered for just a teaser trailer.....they'll keep the good stuff for the film...a few surprises here and there.
A very nice trailer...i have never seen a helicopter in a web before, so it was surreal almost, especially on a very famous skyline.

Please tell me that suspense music will be in the movie like they showed it in teaser. (I'm talking bout when the helicopter gets pulled back. ) Man THAT ROCKS!!!!!! PHATTEST TEASER IN MY LIFE!!!! I've never seen any teaser like that!!!!!! It was CooL! ' /ubb/biggrin.gif /ubb/smile.gif
What character does Willem Dafoe plays? Wasn't that him in Helicopter"?'' I didn't realize it was him with so much makeup (well by his face) Thanks if you tell me who he plays.

Ok guys i Found out who he plays 'Green Goblin' Man You've gotta check this out!! So much info about the movie! and The Cast! It surprises me! Macho Man? He is a wrestler! What's he doing ? /ubb/biggrin.gif Cool http://upcomingmovies.com/spiderman.html I gotta See! THE MOVIE WE ALL HAVE 2!!! And They say I quote from Greg <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Many of the scenes showing Spider-Man himself will be computer animated, since once the mask goes on, there's nothing about the hero that necessarily reflects the actor that plays Peter Parker.</font>
The Green Goblin is played by Willem Dafoe. His suit didn't look overly impressive really, but i have heard reposts that his costume will be very heavily CGI influenced..maybe a CG cape?

I enjoyed the trailer, but I have to say, the whole thing with a spider web between the World Trade Center towers looked kinda dumb. I mean, the chopper was flying slightly above some buildings, then was pulled back into the web. Pan out, and it's halfway up the towers, which tower (pun definitely intended) above the other buildings. What the heck?
Still, this is one my must-see list for 2002.

Yeah man i noticed that too, i thought someone will too. That is very unreal I think people will be dissappointed in that.
And was that Willem Dafoe in the helicopter???
THE DARK

This is going to be a MUST, MUST, MUST... The trailer was worth the wait, the whole robbery deal and all.
Frankly I thought the helicopter in-between the 2 buildings was an A$$-kicker. So good infact, I'm going to download the trailer again! Lets face it, if your going to put the web-swinger on film, do it right, and that is definatly something that could have easily come out of the comic.
Big fan, indeed I am.
The swinging through the city bit was perfect, obviously CGI, but with the motion blur it wasnt easy to tell, I downloaded the trailer when I got home to double check it, frame by frame, all the poses and stretches are comic perfect. The original teaser only showed his reflection in the windows as he swung through the city.
Willem Dafoe as the GG, sounds good, he did a fine job as Nosferatu, so playing the evil-fruit seems to be working well for him. Is it me or were they not going to use Nicholas Cage in the GG role? Its a good thing they didnt.
I've never been more excited with a trailer, EVER!
I'm babbling now aint I... am I dribbling...? DANG!
Terminal.....the trailer has nothing to do with the film in terms of storyline, it was just made up for the trailer, so Willem Dafoe would not be in the helicopter, why would he be anyways? He's a millionaire who owns Oscorpe, a massive industry.
P.S - both Nic Cage and John Malcovich were considered for the role of GG.

I thought so, but its a good thing they got Dafoe in on the game. Something tells me that it may have gotten silly if Cage had been in the role. Malkovich on the other hand, now theres a thought.
I just couldnt see Cage in the GG getup.
Somehow I feel the Maguire's gonna get a bit of a bum rap here though, hes a good actor and all, but the reality is, alot of folk are going in for the spidey effects, I hear that Spidey isnt going to be the focal point, so as to build the Peter Parker character, but I still think spidey's getting the parise and Maguires going to fall by the wayside.
I know its a bit too soon to be saying this, but any ideas if they have made any moves for the sequal, such as including an appearance from Venom?
The Dark......it is inevitable that they have considered a sequel already....i think they want that doctor with all the metal arms.
THE DARK
07-18-2001, 10:53 AM
AK, I figured as much that the sequal was probably in the bag, I was hoping to get more info though. No biggy though!
The appearance of Dr. Octopuss doesnt sound like too bad an idea. There was a post on "SPIDEY VILLAINS" somewhere on the board, and the subject of Venom did come up, I think the general consensus is that Vin Diesal should play the role of Venom, if Hollywood decide to include him in the sequal.
It would be good to see Hollywood get it right for once, the right mix of onscreen time for the hero and some decent exposure of villains to keep the fans happy. I'm sure that Spidey fans, myself inc. have some decent ideas as to which way the franchise should or could go. This is one franchise, I hope they dont screw up!
I personally would have loved a darker Spider-man, but they want to make money from all the kiddies.
THE DARK
07-18-2001, 06:54 PM
Hell yeah...
A darker Spiderman would have been a great move. Its a shame it has to cater for the kids though. But thats always the case. The X-men, could have been so much better had it been done with a more adult angle. In that I dont mean make it all tits and ass, but look at what Japan has done with Anime, "Ninja Scroll" for example.
Imagine if they were to do the Weapon-X saga in the way it was meant to be done, the same as the comic. But I suppose if that was the case, the movies wouldnt get made and if they were they would have to be done on such a tight budget cos Hollywood wouldnt pay up for something that wouldnt go their way.
Ahhh, in perfect world!
But back to Spidey, its understandable that its not fully aimed at adults, hell, I still remember going ape when the original TV show came out, shit, I remember the original cartoon show for fuck sake, and as a child, I was in awe, jumping from living room couches, with my made up web-spinners... erm, I'll stop there I think, before I get misty.
But yeah, a darker image would be a plus.
I'm just afraid they'll exploit CGI and we'll have too much exposure of Spidey's talents. Therefore in scenes when there are large scale CGI stunts or whatever, we will be stunned. CGI somewhat takes away from a magic sense of wonder, and makes something that could potentially have been very artistc/special infact very, very generic and dull looking.
The Spider-Man trailer was ok, nothing to write home about, and i could instantly tell that Spidey wasn't fully rendered, and what i really wanted from the trailer was something dark....him hanging upside down in an alley way (at night) looking at a small spiderweb and a small spider weaving it's web, and him narrating and contemplating, then i would have had him swing as a silhouette very suddenly, and have him dissappear out in the blink of an eye...that way you are seeing him swinging but not seeing the rendered suit or animation very well..that would be the best thing to do, as no major fans could complain about what they saw really, but at the same time get a sense of his movement.
It would also leave questions in the mind of the audience as to what they just saw.
Sometimes less is more.

BEST EVER! this, matrix reloaded, and episode 2 are gonna be huge in 2002.
i herd that the whole helicoper sceen was just something quickly thrown in for the teaser, but i could be wrong.
The teaser is shown for JPIII also, i love it so much because when i think about it again all i can think of was the comic because the cgi was so flawless!

And did anyone noticed that the music is also in the MATRIX? SWEET ASS! i forgot the name of the song but i reconized it from the soundtrack! this WILL be up there in comic movies with batman and the crow!
good point ak about CGI ruening todays touch on movies, if you want to see a disaster like that check out JPIII, alot of pointless thing were CGI.

I saw the trailer in front of JP3 today. When they showed it, I saw all in the crowd, the theater was one row shy of sold out, and I know what we ALL thought at that point.
"HOLY FUCKING SHIT! HOLY FFFFFUCCCCCKIINNNNNGGGGG SHIT!"
It's breathtaking! It's amazing! (And yes, Spider-Man is amazing, thanks for the smart comments yer all thinkin!) Now we gotta wait until MAY to see this baby. X-Men? What was that? A $155 million dollar box office wonder? WHO CARES?! Spider-Man is gonna beat the pants off it. I have a feeling Episode 2 needs a LOT of hype at this point. Which has more coverage? Spider-Man. I haven't heard or seen much on Episode 2. (I have no reason to see it at this moment unless I learn JAR JAR gets beheaded by a Ewok prositute!) I have a feeling, not just as a comic book aficiando but as a schmoe, this movie by Raimi is going to be huge. Early EARLY prediction on gross - over $200 mil domestic. Why? It's Spider-Man. WHY THE HELL NOT?!
Oh yeah, I wanna throw in a CGI comment too. CGI is ruining many movies now, yes. Final Fantasy is the BIGGEST REASON on the planet! (I didn't see FF, nor will I ever.) JP3 wasn't that bad. Without all the CGI the film would have been distaseful. And consider this. If CGI weren't used in the first two films, how would audiences have reacted? Most likely not as well. I dunno . . . AK.. i agree with you there with regards to the trailer.
But if you think about it could have gone either way. If you watch the trailer in real time then it is actually a little difficult to catch the poses and all, and I mean, when I downloaded the trailer and checked it frame for frame, its got the poses straight out of the comic book. But why not, it would be difficult to find a stuntman to pull of those moves the way they rendered them. The points where you do see Spidey swinging around the city are done pretty fast and you can just about catch it.
Speaking of stunts and rendering and so on, what is the likely hood that they will have used that new fangled Wire-Fu method for some scenes?
Did you see the original teaser that was on this site? It was more along the lines of fleeting glances, and beleive me, they were very fleeting, mere reflections in the windows as Spidey swung through the city and most of the time it was going so fast if you blinked you missed it.
But there again, its the same thing about what the majority wants, would the big-cheifs at Hollywood gone with the darker, more suspense filled trailer? Afterall, they still havent got it through their heads that its not just kids that read comics.
Less is definatly more.
One wonders what would have happened had the producers/directors gone for an independant label to bring this film out, probably what you have mentioned.

I don't know how to break this to all you "darker" Spidey proponents, but he is a comic book character in a red and royal blue leotard. He ain't Wolverine, and he sure as fuck ain't Batman! He's Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can ... remember?
Juby..you heard of artistic licensing?

I think so. Isn't that how we got "Batman and Robin"? What a great movie! Brilliant!
.Batman and Robin wasn't artistic and it did need a license to be seen ,cause it was a killer.

for anyone who asked spidey is completely cgi while hes webslingin. they tried early on to make it without the cgi stuff but it never worked out. that was one of the things that was holdng them up for the pastfive years.
...i think people guessed he would be completely CG since this film was announced....there is no way you could have a stuntman swinging through NewYork.....impossible.
Although, there are meant to be some very, very clever scenes where Spider-Man is CGI is one shot, then they change the CGI actor to human...completely in one shot, so me might see Spidey swinging, landing somewhere and we would then see Spider-Man taking his mask off, revealing TobeyMcGuire.

I think the CGI effects were going to be the fairly obvious choice. I mentioned in an earlier post on this subject that any stunt man would be hard pushed to mirror the comic book poses as well as could be done with a computer mock up, but that in mind, if you check the trailer frame for frame, it rocks, becuase they have the poses exactly right, and thats the way to do it. If it looks like he did in the comic then half the vision has been acheived.
As for a darker Spiderman... Well, I hate to sound like an overly romantic fuckwit, but I always found aspects of the Spderman comics dark. If you look past the colourful suits and colourful name, well, there are some things to think about. Fine, alot of the stories on the top seemed to be a little far-fetched and soemtimes downright childish, but if you think about the more serious storylines.
I wont go into one big off-loading of the stories I'm talking about, but there was certainly an air of dark, forboding, brooding, anger, with occaisional break for good humour.
Nobody can doubt that elements of Batman, the comic have been and still try to be dark, but the movies hardly do the character any justice whatsoever, except for the the first Batman movie, dark, and moving. But I'm not going to go into another rampage on how Hollywood gets it wrong time and time again.
Damn it and now I've forgotten the age old tag line... erm... something like, "with great strength, comes great responsibility"
And now. i fear I've blathered on far too waxing and far too lyrical... TEE-HEE! /ubb/tongue.gif

I thought both of the first 2 Batman films kept to the story, they were dark. The last 2 didn't keep it real though, and were lacking heart. The original is still the best! As for Spiderman, all I have to say is I am anticipating this, it looks great.

The Teaser sucked horribly. It was lame, I guessed it was some bad disney movie before they showed the computer generated spiderman. When i saw it was computer done it reminded me of the computer stunts of Robin in "Batman and Robin" It will suck just as much as that movie.
