I didn't know about a lot of those... The Exorcist 4...Should be a cool year. If I had to pick one of them that I want to see the most, it would have to be Hannibal... After reviewing Brock's list I would have to add:
The Mummy Returns
Blade 2
Jason X
I will NOT be going to see Resident Evil...Sorry...but, I just can't handle this whole zombie thing anymore. They just creep me out way too much.
ps. Hi ya Brock! /ubb/tongue.gif

No decomposing, crusty-white, flaky walking-dead guys for KerryAnne?
I think you are dead on about "Hannibal" being THE film to see in 2001, as far as horror films go...here's my top 5...
1. "Hannibal"
2. "Shadow Of The Vampire"
3. "From Hell"
4. "Blade 2"
5. "Jason X"
...safe choices? You bet...when it comes to horror, I like mine safe...safe, as in I KNOW they will be good...even if they are BAD...
...I also forgot to mention that new Sam Raimi flick where Cate Blanchett is the psychic...it looks pretty damn good...if you dig Raimi's work...

Yeah, pretty much what's above, although I am lucky enough to have already seen The Convent (out on video rental in UK, cheesy fun!), and Cut (very funny) and Ed Gein (excellent film, Steve Railsbeck is superb) at a horror fest in London. Saw some on-set footage for I Can't Sleep there as well, that looks like a return to Argento's form of the late 70s...
Also anticipating wider release of the Ring films (only seen Ring 2) and anything from the 3-picture deal Clive Barker's got at the moment!

"The Attic Expeditions" looks interesting. It has Seth Green, Ted Raimi, Alice Cooper, and last but not least, Jeffery Combs who plays - gasp! - a mad scientist. Might be a stretch for him, but I think he'll manage.
I'm also way looking forward to M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable" with Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson. I don't think its going to be a horror movie, but from what I've heard, it's going to be a mind bender like "Sixth Sense".
I probably won't be seeing "Resident Evil" either. Not 'cause zombies give me the heebie-jeebies, but because it's going to be directed by the talentless hack who has already dropped two flaming bags of poo on our doorsteps; namely "Mortal Kombat" and "Event Horizon". Hate that guy.
On a positive note, the masters will be returning; namely Romero, Carpenter, and Argento. Can't be bad. And isn't Craven doing the adaptation to that novel he wrote?

The Sam Raimi "Psychic" thriller is called "The Gift" and stars Cate Blanchett, Hilary Swank, Giovanni Ribisi, Greg Kinnear, Keanu Reeves & Katie Holmes to name a few...
Wes Craven is going to be in the new documentary "The American Nightmare" which explores the horror phenomenon in real life and film...also stars John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, John Landis, George Romero, Tobe Hooper and Tom Savini with many others...
...It may just be me, but I liked "Event Horizon" and thought Paul Anderson (not Paul Thomas Anderson) did a good job on the film...he is also going to direct "Deathrace 3000" with Tom Cruise starring...
Jeffrey Combs is great in every role he takes...

I liked Event Horizon... Sam Neil did a great job,(I just love him as an actor period.) and it had a good storyline.

I also liked the Event Horizon. I thought it was quite scary and Anderson did a surprisingly good directing job.

Woo-hoo! Cronenberg is back! I found this on upcominghorrormovies.com:
"Variety reports that David Cronenberg's next film will be a psychological thriller titled, 'Spider.' The $12 million picture will be financed by UGC International and will star Ralph Fiennes and Miranda Richardson.
"The script has been adapted for the big screen by Patrick McGrath from his own novel and will tell the story of a man, who upon release from a mental hospital, tries to reconstruct his past in the rough East End of London. Spider is slated to begin production before the end of the year."
I'm mutating with anticipation.
As far as "Event Horizon" is concerned, it had a kick-ass premise and some interesting moments, but Anderson is obviously (to me, anyway) the type of director who is far more interested in getting a cool shot than filming a coherent story. The director of "Stigmata" was the same way. All glitz, no substance.

Lots of directors have made their mark through visuals...especially in this FX-heavy day and age...Anderson ("Event Horizon") just needs to find a good writer to work with..."Event Horizon" was just one of those films that doesn't have to much storywise, leaving the director to make up for it with the visuals and acting presence...
I would compare him to the director of "Gone In 60 Seconds"..."Gone In 60 Seconds" only had a "story" to make the visuals plausible...whereas the same director did "Kalifornia" which had both. Paul Anderson will continue to make decent films and perhaps a really good one...who knows?

I think a good director considers the function of the visuals before he (she) considers their prettiness. I'm not insisting movies should have strictly a utilitarian style, like Kevin Smith's or many of George Romero's. Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick, and Alfred Hitchcock are examples are examples of directors whose visuals are both wonderful to look at and necessary to the story. (Of course we can't forget the importance of the DP when it comes to the look of a movie, but the director has first and last say.)
I don't want to get completely off the topic, since this is supposed to be about new movies and not the virtues or failings of certain directors, so I'll just conclude by saying that Anderson does not strike me, personally, as a director who knows how to relate a story visually. I'd be more than happy if he proves me wrong; we can never have too many good directors.

I am dying with anticipation to see Tim Burton's remake of the psychedelic classic "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory"...starring Marilyn Manson as Willy Wonka...true story...
...also "Kiss The Girls" looks pretty decent from the trailer...
...and "Hannibal" has my balls in a knot with anticipation...
...and#2 "Valentine" looks fuckin' a-awesome...

You have got to be kidding me...Marylin Manson as Willy Wonka? It sounds very interesting.... That will be one to watch. Hannibal is going to be soooo cool...god I really can't wait to see it.

no joke kerryanne...I guess Burton must have remake fever with "Planet Of The Apes" and now this...if anyone can do it though, it would be Burton...the thing I can't imagine for the life of me is Marilyn Manson surrounded by all of those bright colors...
I thinking it will look like a cross between "City Of Lost Children" and "The Crow" with some "Blade Runner" & "The Cell" thrown in for good measure...lots of leather and abstract coloring/designs...just think of the possibilities...
...by the way, I thought the new "Hannibal" trailer looked really good and the Italian setting looked like something out of "The Talented Mr. Ripley". Oldman looks damn good as Mason Verger though, and the more I see Julianne Moore, the more I dig her...

Hey all, no one said anything about the remake of MARTIN, a classic Romero film being handled by Mr. Bryan Yuzna!!! A movie about a vampire that is . . . or isn't . . . that might.
You tell me.
