It appears that due to the great success of BLADE, Marvel is going to do a Ghost Rider film as well. The film is already in production with Skeet Ulrich playing the role of Daniel Ketch, and Patrick Swayze playing the role of Jonny Blaze. As to the point of if this film will do well or see theatrical release is yet to be seen. It appears thet Christopher Walken will as well have a bit part in the film as Mephisto.
How many of you want to sere another comic book film in the theaters?
Let us all see FAUST as a movie!!!! That was a thought in the early nineties! Am I the only one out there cool enough to have gotten to read this comic series?

Patrick Swayze? Oh, god, say it ain't so! I'm crawlin' under a rock. Patrick Swayze.

I guess I wasn't cool enough to enjoy Faust. To me it just seemed like gore, sex, and no story. I can't image how this series could be filmed, unless it was done by some of the makers of the Japanese "Genea Pig" series.

Watchman, originally FAUST was going to be filmed by John Carpenter in the early nineties, but due to "moral" issues, he decided to abandon the project.
The script was then passed from director to director until it fell into the hands of Brian Yuzna. He even has supposedly filmed some of the movie over the last five years but ran out of funding. Well, there goes another film to the oblivion, as I don't think that we will ever see it without an "X" rating for sexual content, severe gore, and just plain old porno style erotica!

Ghost Rider was one of my favorite heroes when I was a kid but even I have to say that I don't want this film to happen. With the recent trend of bad comic movies (X-Men, Spiderman, Daredevil, and the upcoming Hulk), I have to say that this is another one to add to the pile. Hopefully this fad will die out soon. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

when are we gonna see a movie made out of the old EC comics? like it would be awesome to see The Vault of Horror and The Hault of Fear and shit put into a movie.....Creepshow style.....

PS. I'm aware of the Tales From the Crypt movies but they didn't do any justice to the comics....in my opinion at least....

wow, this post is kind of contradicting...you may disregaurd it now.

Well, as I said in the Werewolf by Night thread, Ghost Rider is my favorite marvel comics character (both versions 1975-81, and 1990-97 I think). I will be first in line to see this regardless of who is in it or how bad the reviews are. As for Patrick Swayze as Johnny Blaze, at least he would look closer to the part than Nic Cage!

But please!!!!!- Skeet Ulrich...arrgh!!! Anyone with any power whatsoever in the movie industry hear my cries!!! do not put that tool in this film. I hated him in everything I have seen him in, and he would completely ruin this movie for me.

Thank you and have a nice day

Well theres no freaking way that they can make this film pg-13, hell the guy sells hes soul to satan, and he is the spirit of vengence who makes the bad guys feel the pain of whatever evil deed they have done when they look into his eyes...oh wait they did it to spawn.

Shit, oh well, I guess well see a kiddie version of good ole Flame head after all. Damn it.

Anyhows if they do make a hard r-rated ghost rider, well it would kick ass certainly. Why? Well with an image of a flaming skull driving around in the middle of the night with chains rattleing and and evil kackle piercing the night air...well how can they go wrong? It would certainly please this horror/comic loving fiend!

But Patrick Swayze and Skit Ulrich? Come on! Im sure they can think of something better then these two nobodies..

Cool image spacemonkey! I liked that series of Ghost Rider (Thats actaully the 3rd series), but I love the Original Ghost Rider look, with the black/blue stuntrider outfit. That Ghost Rider was the most sinister, especially towards the end of the series. I realize that there is no way a movie could go completely into the back story of such a complex character, so in case anyone was wondering, there were actually 3 different incarnations of Ghost Rider

***Possible Spoilers if the movie is ever made***

1. Johnny Blaze: A stunt rider who sold his soul to the Devil in order to save his foster fathers life. He was then possessed by the demon Zarathos, and forced to live a double life until eventually being freed from the curse

2. Dan Ketch: In this version, the "Spirit of Vengence" is much more heroically oriented, with a preference not to kill. This story is more of a family curse, where generations of family are possessed by their ancestor to carry out the mission of the spirit of vengance.

3. This was the most recent Ghost Rider series, where Johnny Blaze is once more cursed to ride as the demon. But I was a bit confused as to which demon he was possessed by, Zarathos or the spirit from the second series.

Any one interested in the character should check out the following website. It's the most comprehensive site I have found, but mainly deals with the second series. If you look around a bit, you may even find some tidbits on everyones favorite vampire hunter, Blade!!

Spawn and Daredevil were both pg-13 but have (and will have) a R rated dvd out so maybe they will go the same rout with Ghostrider.

This is a fake pic, it has to be. I mean Ghost Rider doesn't even have hair. He has a skull floating above his body surrounded by flames. This picture is just goofy.

Johnny Blaze is blond isnīt he??
Cast Thomas Jane from Deep blue sea (I know he has been considered as Frank Castle in The Punisher, but for me he was born to play the ghostrider)
Teen killer...how can you say that the Hulk sucks when it hasnīt come out yet? i donīt have high hopes for it either (The Hulk is my favourite) but I will not judge it before I have seen it...

That pic just looks like some geek at a comics convention who put on a home made costume, dont fear Im sure this aint the way hell look in the movie.

If that's how ghost rider ends up looking then I don't believe that the box office take will be very encouraging... perhaps an intervention by fans would be necessary for this.

I think Ghost Rider is a perfect example where CGI is not only appropriate but indispensable. Ghost Riders flaming skull head needs to be done in high quality CGI, to accurately reflect the comics.

To be honest, I'm getting tired of this re-imagining comic characters bull-shit. If you can't do the character right, then don't f*cking do it at all. For instance, I have yet to see it, but the Daredevil suit in the movie looks gay (not in the homosexual way) as hell. The character and his costume just don't translate well into the real world, or at least that's what they thought, so they went with the awful substitute that is currently gracing the theatres. I'm not against making comic book movies, but I don't think a lot of it is going to translate well. The Hulk looks like they are doing it right... the hulk looks pretty sweet from what I've heard. Another comic that will probably do well is the movie translation of "30 Days of Night" (which, btw, if you haven't read, you should be shot... one of the best and most original vampire stories since Near Dark... better than N.D. in my opinion).

However, my most treasured graphic novel series (I don't read many... I'm super choosy, but when I find a good one I can't put down, I love it forever), a.k.a Garth Ennis' "Preacher", is being turned into a movie. Let me tell you what's wrong with this...

PREACHER IS THE MOST VIOLENT, DISGUSTING, DISTURBING, AND PLOT-HEAVY graphic novel I've ever read.

You cannot condense 9 graphic novels, that are roughly an hour read each, into a good movie. You couldn't garnish an NC-17 rating if they stayed true to the series with the material. I hope it gets shitcanned so nobody will put a blemish on the series.

Ranting out...yo...

That is a aweful picture but is the hair supossed to be flame or something? It looks like its the color of it, with the red and orange in there together, so maybe they are just using it as a really bad reference to take out and put cg flame in later or something.

i thought thats what it was for so i never got that botherd by it. What does have me botherd is that they seem to be giving ghost rider eyes. He is just a skeleton, so no flesh and no eyes!

MotorizedInstinct

ok the hair may be digitally removed, but the skull sucks too.

XCoRyX
03-15-2003, 12:22 AM
i agree, the skull isnt so great looking either, but with some cgi and effects and such thrown in it may look ok....nw can someone please tell me whom is playing the lead/ghost rider?is it still nicholas cage?and what characters do patrick swayze and skeet ulrich play?they villains?

03-15-2003, 04:18 AM
I don't know about this. Even if that cheesy 80's hair is just supposed to be a guideline for the flames for the time being I am still not sure that the face looks Ghostriderish. I guess I would have to see the finished result before I really judge though. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

XCoRyX
03-15-2003, 11:29 AM
well,im thinking since it is supposedly a guideline for the cgi created flames, that we may not even see his face/skeleton too much,it may be covered with flames and such, hopefully thats the way it is if the pic is true.

If they do make this movie, they should definetely do it Blade style, going the horror route. I would hate to see this made into a kiddy-movie, but the story just wouldn't work. Look at what happened in Spawn. The HBO series was a hell of a lot better, because it was true to the comics.
