Although purist would be opposed to remaking any great, or even merely good horror flicks, as an aspiring film director, I admit there are a few trailblazers I'd love to refilm.
My Bloody Valentine is great, but I'd love to redo it. As a closterphobic guy, I love the endless black tunnels, lit only by wall lanterns and of course the light on top of the killer's helmet.
I'd taking a steadicam down there and tear that movie up.
I'm new to the board, but I've read back a ways and see that many of you fellow horror lovers are into film making too. What are some titles you guys wouldn't mind redoing with your own vision?

When movies are redone they are always compared to the original and usually cut to pieces by critics and fans alike. I hate to see this especially if I like both versions (i.e. Night of the Living Dead).
I think a good movie to remake would be Dawn of the Dead. Zombie movies are hardly made nowadays and I think the ultimate living-dead movie is due for a big budget makeover.
This could bring new fans to the genre, while also breathing life into the original, which is probably overlooked by mainstream horror fans.

I have to agree completely with Gore
Dawn would be the perfect movie to remake, as it is one of the best horror films of all time.
I've always wanted to see a new version of Evil Dead. I know that it is still effective, even though it's 20 years old. But a new version would be nice...especially with the same amount of gore.
And, while I'm at it, why not a new version of Cujo? I loved the movie....reason unknown.

Why remake "Dawn of the Dead"? It'd be impossible. A movie should only be remade to update it, or improve it - "The Blob," "The Thing" (as heretical as that may seem to some), "The Fly."
I'd remake Frankenheimer's "Prophecy." Sorry, I just got this thing for giant mutant bears. And, yeah, "Cujo." The book was great, and althought the movie tried, it just couldn't live up to it.

I think Tom Savini could direct a kick ass Dawn O' the Dead remake. He did pretty good with his Night remake, but Dawn is so up his ally. He did stunts in Dawn and makeup, well, also he did From Dusk Till Dawn. Perfect.
I'd love to see the original Friday remade.
I could see Quentin Tarentino doing it justice. After all, Q.T. tried to get his hands on Halloween 6 a few years back...
I bet he could put a good spin on it and really pick up the backwoods horrors of summer camp slashers. (quentin also loves Dario ARgento, so maybe he'd infuse some gialli elements into Friday. Oooooooh.....
I've been siked (forgive my use of the word sike) for House of 1000 Corpses. I'm a huge fan of the art of the B horror film.
The preview taunted me and I love the soundtrack. Industrial clanging, like a ride through hell. Cool over the top colors too, for what you can see.
A remake of The Evil Dead would kick much butt.
I used to be a pen pal of Sam Raimi's back in the Darkman days and I hurt his feelings when I said I liked The Evil Dead better than The Evil Dead 2. He likes the sequel much better, but I think part one is much more intense. A remake of the Evil Dead would be wonderful, but I'd prefer a dark remake. More in the tone of the first. Horror over comedy.
I love Prophesy. Haven't seen it in years, but that makes it even more cry out for a remake.
Other than Bloody Valentine, I'd like to remake Suspiria and Deep REd. I'd set them in America, Deep Red in Georgetown, which favors gothic architecture (The Exorcist)

I'd personally have to go with 'The Birds' They could do a lot with the special effects and make that movie so much more freaky. I also agree that 'The Blob' would be interesting to see.
Peace,
