OK, this isn't by all means gonna be a Horror movie, but at least the novel often borders on our beloved genre, (love those Orks ) and after all, it is directed by Peter Jackson ( Dead Alive, Bad Taste ). I've seen some screen shots in a magazine today and I'm going to sleep with mixed feelings about it:

Christopher Lee will play Saruman ( he shall rule ). I don't know who plays Gandalf but on the screenshot, he looks pretty... confusing. I work in a retirement home and I know some people who are more threating and have a more powerful aura than this actor, at least on the Screenshot. Liv Tyler will play Arven ( am I the only one who has creepy visions of the Battle of Middle Earth with a Soundtrack that lists : "I don't wanna miss a Sword"?? ) The Monsters look pretty appealing, great make up. The article reads that they even have somebody who plays Sauron ( hell why? he is never seen in the Book, only spoken of ), but it could be wrong. As I said, Peter Jackson is directing so I'm looking forward for some great Orks vs Elves gorefests in this one. I wonder how they are going to manage ALL the plot in the novel in only three films. It would suck really hard if they leave anything out, but let's face it, they have to.

In General, I don't think that "Lord of the Rings" calls for a Screen-Adaption. It is bound to disappoint and there haven't even been any commercials so far. But it's Peter Jackson after all, and the first adaption ( a comic-moive that only included the first Book ) isn't bad as well.

What's your thoughts?

"Lord of the Rings," quite simply, is going to ROCK!

Ian McKlellen (sp?) plays Gandalf, and a good choice that is.

With Peter Jackson at the helm, I have no worries. I really can't think of anyone else who might have been able to pull this project off, except for maybe Speilberg, but he'd probably get to schmaltzy and go for too many patented "Speilbergian wonder-moments."

Jackson, on the other hand, is a first-class director who knows how to use special effects to tell a story, rather than using them to stop a story dead in its tracks. From what I've heard, the story will remain pretty much intact. Plus, Jackson will retain the dark edge to the goings-on.

I caught a preview before "13 Days," and it blew me away. I'm not worried in the least about this movie. In fact, I'll go so far as to say it might just blow "Star Wars" out of the water.
