I've heard it's going to be more of a love story?

Lucas has promised a much darker atomosphere to Episode II. His exact words where "This is not a kid's movie". Considering the contrast between A New Hope and Empire, I think we can allow ourselves some high expectations.

I felt Episode 1 was more aimed at children, I thought some parts were really stretching it and too cartoonish. I guess that's only my opinion though. I would like to see Episode 2 become darker, I have high expectations for the upcoming Star Wars.

Hey people Episode II will be only a little darker, cause it IS a love story. Episode III is the one supposed to be real dark. But I think Ep.II is gonna be very good, watch the making-of trailers here at joblo.com and you'll be as impatient to see it as I am. I think Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman are gonna work out good, Yoda's finally gonna fight, and Ewan McGregor and Samuel L.Jackson will star in more scenes. 'Nuff said.
No manner of words from George Lucas saying it will be dark are going to persuade me that this is going to be better than The Empire Strikes Back ever was.
I really don't believe that he is going to give the film a dark look, it's essentially a children's film, and to make it un-accessible through greater darkness wouldn't be fun for the kids. It would be far better for the adults to watch.
Of course, when George Lucas says "dark" he obviously doesn't mean Tim Burton/David Fincher darkness, but i would very much like to see this story the way it should be seen, not like The Phantom Menace, which was almost a joke. (e.g - The gungan battle - embarassing).
Jar Jar will return for the children, but he is said to be a lot older, whether he will die or not is just an internet rumour, but he will still sell the figures along with C-3PO and R2-D2, which is an immense importance, unfortunately, with George Lucas.
And i think that's George Lucas' achilles heel - the toys. He feels the need to create some un-interesting, downright silly characters that may spoil what he was intentionally trying to make - a decent film.
C-3PO and R2-D2 are essential characters, they are the subtle comedy within the previous trilogy, but to have most blatant pomposity with Jar Jar and the awful scenario with him running away from those "energy" balls in Episode I totally distracted from everything that i like to call "The Star Wars universe".
Episode II and III have great potential, the storyline is far more dramatic (at least they have far more potential to be much more dramatic)and the character situations seem far more exciting. I think the introduction of more fine actors/characters is a very positive thing. We have a grown up Anakin played by someone who is able to act (Hayden Christensen), unlike Jake Lloyd who didn't even hint at an evil side/darker persona.
The very love-triangle in the story should be intersting, if only to see the ever decreasing relationship between Senator Amidala, Anakin and Obi Wan (Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor respectively).
Also, we have the rise of the Emperor - Senator Palpatine, who, from early pictures i have seen, is already being ravaged by age from evil with purple bags under his eyes, balding/greying hair and those classic black robes.
Episode I is perhaps, to look at from a certain perspective, the most un-interesting Star Wars film possible, mostly due to the story, but also because it didn't have room for immense drama, the Jedi and their cause was dealt with in an un-interesting manner, Anakin, who is such an important emotional point for the entire prequel trilogy just seemed dull, now that is no way to start off the most dramatic story in the Star Wars universe.
I am very much looking forward to Episode II, what ever it may be named, and the cast is exceptional, including Christopher Lee, Samuel L Jackson and Ian McDiarmid. Roll on Episodes II and III, i can't wait.

Nothing left to say, my man AK sed it all!
Did you have not see it?
Star Wars Episode II are intended to beat Titanic with:
1. Darkness than Episode I. (Lightness imposible)
2. The dead of Jar-Jar Binks (I swear I'll put it a 10/10 to the movie if this happens).
3. Actors that can act (give Portman, McGregor and Chrstiansen a decent script).
4. A love history like Titanic with a a lot of love an a tragic end (intented to beat Titanic in the box office). The teenagers will come out of the theathers wishpering for Anakin.... /ubb/smile.gif
Anyway, I have a lot of faith in Episode II.
...the problem i have with Star Wars films is that they can never make more money than Titanic due to the "geeky" aura of them.
I very much like the films, i'm not really a fan, but i would name the greatest film of all time to be The Empire Strikes Back just plainly due to its filmic genius.
Episode II and III will be big, but not massive.

Well, lets hope EP2 does hit the mark that EP1 missed by a long shot.
As for tagging it dark, well, it seems unlikely that Lucas would do a turn like that, considering the market that he's chosen to ply this latest addition to the franchise. If we look at it though, how dark could he possibly make it, the idea was tried with the original series and with that, we got The Empire Strikes Back... which, of the 4 films that have been made to date, is IMO, the best and yes, darkest, if you could call it that. But it was dark and not as colourful and kiddy as the others.
Thats not to say it was a scarey look or disturbing look at how the franchise could evolve. But like I said, it was dark, but not that dark, certainly darker than the rest. The fact that this is going to be a turning point in the story, the love story, the begining of Anakins move to the darkside makes for some damn good epic storytelling, but once again, its going to have to be done right.
Make it dark, make it moody, the love angle is good, the evolution of Anakins hate and fear and so on is the best thing that could happen to the story, afterall, its inevitable. If you look beyond the Jar-Jar element and all the crud that went on in the farce that was EP1, and to be honest, I kind of ignored the stuff I didnt enjoy in EP1 when I rewatched it... all 6 times...lol! /ubb/smile.gif
But enough said me thinks... I'm looking forward to EP2, but then again, I was looking forward to EP1 and was dissapointed, so I wont be holding my breath.
