MPAA gave the highly anticipated "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" a PG-13 for epic battle sequences and some scary images. Thats sounds about right. I am glad it does not say anything about language or sexuality. I was afraid Hollywood throw some of that stuff in to make 6 year old boys like it. Is anyone suprised or mad about the rating? Or have any thoughts?
I knew the film would get this rating, and i am pleased, because this isn't a "kids" film anyways. It's going to be dark with adult themes, but children will enjoy, but they'll also get scared too.
Apparently, the DVD will have some raw battle scenes...R rated apparently.

I heard that The producers said Jackson couldn't make the film "R"

The DVD will probably be unrated with all of the added bloodletting footage.

I knew that this would get PG-13, but for the opposite reason. This is going to be grossly marketed towards kids, thats what a PG-13 rating is for.

I'm just glad it's not PG. PG-13 sounds about right, and I'll be glad if the DVD is the director's cut.
Ender.....kids will be able to watch the film, very obviously, but it's not going to be a kids film, not by far. Jackson likes his darkness and his touch of quirkyness and gore, it will be in these films. Not enough for kids not to be able to watch it, but they'll be scared.

Hell, the Nazgul freak me out as it is. The little ones are going to be terrified.
Anyways....a film that is "grossly" marketed toward children, in my opinion, is one that gets a "U" rating, just like The Phantom Menace...a few films i have seen that are of a PG rating are not suitable for children, well, actually a lot.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is not just an institution for adults, it's for children too, although i'm not sure a great deal of them understand most issues within the story.
These films were NOT thought of by a studio (to make), Jackson decided he wanted to make the films, and make the films he wanted to see, and the films he thought would do the story justice.
At a recent Execs-showing of the rough cut of the first film NewLine stated they were more than happy with both the commercial aspects and the artistic aspects....that's enough for me to sleep easy.

Aparently it's almost 3 hours long.

2 hours and 45 minutes, to be exact.
I've also heard that the film is completely finished, and stacked in a secure vault....there will be no test screenings either....sounds excellent, they must be very confident with what they have.....just think, they could touch a lot of things up now until December, but that would cost them money, and they must also have completed it to the best of their talents.

I'm 80% sure that the copy we'll see at the theaters will be 2 hours and 10 minutes long.
Unless they're thinking the Titanic way. I, however, doubt that a movie about midgets with pointy ears will stay at the top of the B.O for more than 10 weeks.
No offense, though. I love the books and I'll love the movie.
No, Schorchlord is correct, the final running time for the film is 2 hours 45 minutes.

I don't think 2 hours and 10 minutes would be long enough to cover a 500 page book, even if Tom Bombadil isn't in it.

Actually, it's not completely finished yet. Word from Moriarty at AICN is that the "content" of the film is finished and locked- hence the running time- but the effects and music are still in need of finishing, and that'll likely take it to December 19 for a genuinely locked picture.
I do agree that the not having test screenings is a good thing- you don't want people unfamiliar with the trilogy (like me) saying that things need to be changed...and have New Line go along with them. I don't think they would (they're not that dumb, are they?), but you never know.
The running time seems fine to me; it might cut into the box-office muscle some (since it would have fewer showings a day a screen). To say the least, I'm excited about this film. I have a great amount of confidence in Peter Jackson, and it looks as though the film is going to be a great epic.
Considering Titanic was a hefty 3 hours....it made a massive amount, so i don't think we need worry on the lenghthly timing.

This film is actually indeed a young adult+ film. If you've read the books, you'll understand its not just laugh-about and smile content. Its more than that. Its rather serious in nature actually. Just because something is Fantasy doesnt mean its a children film. Its more than that.
