I have read "O" once. It was a pretty good book, far better than the similarly themed "Justine"... /ubb/wink.gif

I am very excited about this film. The trailer looks great. Josh Hartnett is very talented dude. Julia Stiles is good too. I think this film is going to be full of twists and interesting characters. Mekki Phifer and Josh hartnett look like hot Oscar contenders. As for box office it needs good-word-of-mouth. This film will not have a huge opening like say "The Mummy Returns" but it could be a solid contender. We'll have to wait and see. I am rooting for it.

I am sufficently excited! but i doubt any1 is as excited as u r mike!

I think it is such a shame that big budget no-hope useless movies like THE MUMMY RETURNS pull in the money of punters when films like O that will no doubt b excellent films dont make as much! I just feel sorry for those fools who wont go and c this film cus it isnt as mainstream as say the mummy returns if u get me!

Right on Mike, this looks like an EXCELLENT movie! I'm pretty pumped to go watch it. Should I take my cousins even though they've never read the original version?

Even if your cousins haven't read the original version take them anyway. They might love the movie and then they'll want to read the original version...

Is this the movie I remember hearing about? Is this simply a new version of Othello, or it is one of those modern Shakespeare remakes. Modernizations rarely work out. Sure, Shakespeare uses universal themes that apply to all time periods, but very few modern screenwriters (none, in fact) are as talented as old Will.
Unless of course I'm mistaken (?) and thinking of something completely different. Someone fill me in?

The one that goes "I still got your face, painted on my heart." I can't remember the name of it but it's also on the GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS soundtrack and in that movie... It's by The Cult... I'll go to amazon.com and check out the Gone In Sixty Seconds soundtrack for you and I'll come back and let you know...

It's called "Painted On My Heart" by Cult... I hope I could be of some help...

I just saw the trailer again on the internet and I can't wait, this is the movie I've been waiting for!!! I got my new Entertainment Weekly today and they featured an awesome article and the stars made the cover and they look great... I'd give EW's cover an A+, the stars, especially Julia Stiles, she looks GREAT. It's EW's top movie of the "10 SUMMER MOVIES WORTH SEEING" and it deserves to be. THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE GREAT...

Mike, do you drink a lot of coffee?

Anyways, I don't see the big hype for this movie, It's just another 'teen' spin off on Shakespeare. Of course, since this is rated R it might be a bit more grittier, but come on, its been on the shelf for almost 2 years, It was originaly scheduled to come out in October of 1999!!!

Mike

It was on the shelf because of the films violence and nobody had enough balls to release it. Since that God Damn Columbine thing, that's why it was pushed back so much. I think it will be GREAT... I'm glad Lions Gate took over and got this sucker a release date. If you want more info read the article in ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY...

i generally am not into present day remakes of shakespeare, but htis one has potential, cause it's doesn't closely follow the language, like romeo and juliet. and i went to the website, i thought it was really cool. so if anything, the website's worth going to

I saw the trailer on TV last night for the first time, well, I've seen it before but it was the first time I saw it on TV. Anyway, I'm disappointed with the trailer they are showing on TV for it, it's definately not as good as the one on the website. I really want this movie to succeed, it looks GREAT. I hope they change the trailer.

I just saw O at a premiere and it's great!!! The adaptation is vey clever, the director very talented and I really like the actors. Josh Hartnett is great at the evil guy, I'm sure he's going to be big because he has this great charisma. Go see O, it's worth it!!1

Me too Horror Whore, I can't wait. Did you see the previews at the movies website or the ones on TV? Because the ones on TV don't look as good as the one at the website. If you haven't seen the preview at the website yet then go check it out, you won't regret it...

I'm sorry, but adapting The Bard to modern day high school life is akin to using the mona lisa to pick up your dog's poop. This movie has MTV generation written all over it and I refuse to see something as great as Othello be turned into a whiny drama about *basketball* stars who wind up shooting each other. Oh and by the way, portraying a young black male as a slang-talkin basketball star, *very* original. Gee, I wonder if he winds up with a career as a rap star by the movie's end. I hate how movies will try to cover up such racial pidgeon holeing by covering it up with a white girl. "Of course the movie is'nt prejudiced, the black guy gets the white girl". Interracial dating seems to be the only trick movie producers can think of to commit more horrible acts of rascism. The kind that slips into the unconscious of the american public. It makes young black men beleive that their only chance for sucess in life is as a rap star, sports star, or some sort of narcotics dealer. SHAFT and DOLEMITE were different kinds of movies because they represented a kind of catharsis for african-americans in a movie industry which did'nt treat them kind in the first place. Now, the days of Amos and Andy are behind us and I'd like to see more african-americans in different roles. Ones that don't portray black males as street-smart gangsters. Where the sucess of a black person is'nt limited to one's athletic ability. But, on the other hand, I also would like a million dollars and and unlimited acess to the playboy mansion.

Anyways, enough of my tirade against racial stereotyping. This movie did spark my interest for a second, but then I realized if I wanted to see O, I'd just rent the play or even read it. Rather than contribute to the corruption of a great epic tale of jealousy and treachery. TRAINING DAY is what I'm looking forward to.

Movie looks good. As for the last comments... does everything have to be about colour honestly? I mean the character that was written was black... he wasn't thrown in there by studios to make it more PC. And he gets the white girl? He doesn't exactly... it's a very tragic play (Othello I mean). I hope that it's adapted well and will definately see it.
