George Lucas said today that after Star Wars Episode 3 (due for release in 2005) is finished, the intended nine-part series will end after six parts. He says that he is 57 now, and he would not be able to stay with the series through his old age. So Episode three will end it.

I have always been a fairly big, although not completely insane, Star Wars fan, and this news is bittersweet. It would have been nice to see the series unfold just as he wanted it, but I'm happy that he will be moving on with his work and not be doing Star Wars Episode 9 when he's 84 years old.

But this news makes me even happier: as a HUGE Indiana Jones fan, I am overjoyed to learn that next after Star Wars Episode 3 for Lucas will be, yes, Indiana Jones 4. Yay!

I learned this information a few years back when Lucas said that they would infact be his last as he wants to do further projects....to be honest...people might get bored.
Episode III is a great place to "end" the trilogy, i need not learn anything more from the story.
This is the series at it's emotional high now and that's where it should end.

Yeah, it's too bad, but that's the way it goes. I was really curious about what was planned for 7-9. Am I the only one who would love to see movies about the Thrawn Trilogy?

As much as I love Indy, I think that if he were to start work on it after 2005, all the actors from the original would be too old. Isnt Harrison Ford in his 40s now? Thats just my opinion.

No, in fact in July Harrison turned 59. That's not a typo, 59!!! He still thinks he could play Indy, though.

Yeah, it's a book series written by Timothy Zahn. Most of the Star Wars books suck, but Zahn wrote an excellent trilogy. It takes place a few years after Jedi, and it's basically about an Imperial warlord (Grand Admiral Thrawns) who reunites the remenants of the Empire. It's pretty damn cool.

Hey guys, you never know what might happen.

Someone might just start up a revival about the trilogy and might actually make some movies out of it.

It's both good and upsetting that the Star Wars series will stop at six. Good because there is less a chance that the series will be tarnished and bloated. Upsetting because Lucas did intend to make it a nine part series.

But i think they should do nine. Yes Lucas is getting old and it is his "baby" but what is it most Jedi Masters have??? An "Apprentice." Lucas has to find someone that he trusts and believes in. He needs that someone to take on the next three episodes. After all, he didn't direct Empire and Jedi, so he at least has faith in other directors worthy of the task.

i used to want to see episode 7-9 more than any potential sequels. But, over the years i realized that really it should end with 6. And with no darth vader around. it just wouldn't be the same. something about fighting stray Empire General's and Admirals just doesn't really float my boat like ol' Darth did.

I recently saw a special on THE SPACE CHANNEL, dealing with and comparing STAR WARS and STAR TREK.

They said towards the end of the show that Lucas said that all 9 episodes would be made...

Now I'm not sure how old the special is maybe he changed his mind? OR maybe he will turn the final 3 over to someone else? Lucas must have a protoge?

Regardless, I would still like to see the whole 9 completed.

I mean, couldn't he just oversee them to make sure it is how he envisioned them?
