Rob Roy - 8/10
I Loved this movie. Just saw it this weekend and had to comment on it. Being a huge Bravehart fan I knew I would liek this movie, but not as much as I actually did. Oh how I hated Tim Roth though, he just gets on your nerves so bad, ya just wanna jump into the TV and kick his ass.

I didn't like this movie at all. Liam Neeson was dry and you didn't care about his character. The ONLY good thing about this movie was Tim Roth, he never fails. Overall, nowhere near as good as Braveheart.

Rob Roy sucked. I saw it on a plane and managed to bearly managed to stay awake through it. None of the characters could make it appealing. It was a dry story, with dry characters, and not much of a script. I don't think I could be nicer about it.

I completely agree with your appraisal of this film Pink Moose...(8/10)...
I often compare "Rob Roy" with "Braveheart" and I always find "Rob Roy" to have much more substance and much better character performances as well as biting dialogue that is some of the best insinuating remarks I have heard in a "period" piece since "Dangerous Liasons"...
As mentioned, Tim Roth is the standout performance with Brian Cox and Jessica Lange not far behind. It is a film filled with amazing character actors (not extras and stuntmen like "Braveheart") and simple, powerful and poetic underlying themes. The dialogue is sharp and well thought out, while the musical score is a classic to cherish. The makers of this film decided to forgo creating a money-making blockbuster, instead carefully crafting a delightful and thoroughly entertaining cinematic gem...
(In Short: great film...)

ROB ROY was a great great movie!!! The ultra realistic sword fight in the end (as some of you Senior Schmoes know by now, I like anything to do with long blady objects)
was well worth the price of admission. I also thought the shockingly sad scene of Jessica Lange scrubbing herself hard in the lake after being raped by Tim Roth (and her bro was there too!)was unforgettable. Belated Oscars all around!!!!

I enjoyed this movie. I appreciated the storyline, even if it was a bit cliched. I thought Rob Roy was an excellent character, as was was his wife. Tim Roth definitely had the best role here, though; he played that creepy villain magnificently. I enjoyed the authenticity of the sets and costumes. The landscapes and "feel" of the movie really make you think your back in historical Scotland. There was also some nice swordplay/action sequences and the score of the film was beautiful. I loved it. But the movie still does run a little long, and becomes a bore now and then. Even if I would have prefered more emotional attachment to the characters, they still grab you at least a little bit.
My Rating: 7/10
