For the love of Diaz & Lopez, why-oh-why did I rent this garbage?!?!

This bumbling forgettable jaunt through Africa is not only a bad movie, but a pointless story.

Suposedly the film is based on the true story of a woman named Kookie, played by Kim Bassinger, who moved to Kenya with her son and new husband. Bassinger's character being a recent survivor of a near death experience claims her move to Africa as being her chance to make a difference in life... Whatever! The only difference she made was adding a dull blonde to Africa's landscape...

Every aspect of the movie was ridiculous, blatantly predictable and uninspiring. It's funny how Kookie learns to speak fluent Swahili in one simple scene transition. I kept thinking to myself, something GOOD must happen eventually - otherwise why would this woman's life be turned into a movie?!

I recommend this movie to those who're looking for a sedative, as the only borderline redeeming quality is the panoramic African scenery we're given the pleasure of from time to time.

I hear ya man... the writers really could have taken some more poetic license with this. Add some lion and snake attacks. Maybe some lions that throw poison snakes too. yea. It would have been terribly stupid, but still better.

Did you guys actually pay money to see this film? I saw the poster and immediately knew it would suck...and suck big time. I don't even go within 20 feet of the section of the video store that it is stocked in for fear of turning to stone...

In my defence, I didn't rent it, nor would I have ever rented it. It was brought home by someone else. I just made the mistake of sitting throught it.

"I Dreamed Of Africa" has such a faulty screenplay that even Africa is seen as unexciting as the writers focus on nothing in particular in this mildewed biography. The Gallmann's are animal conservationists but you never see that, just standing by dead elephant in a couple of scenes. The ranch they acquire is completely rundown and then magically a few scenes later they have a beautiful African villa. How did they make their money, saw a few scenes of them with cattlte, but not really working. What you have instead are stupid sayings about joy and loving the land and spats about hubby (played by an almost non-visible Vincent Perez) who goes off to hunt with his buddies. The only thing I liked was the little boy who loved his snakes. Basinger wasn't bad, but the script just talked instead of did. I'm sure the real life of Kuki is inspiring, but this film sure isn't! Hugh Hudson, who makes magnificent movies of Africa, made a big miss step with this one.

I Dreamed of Africa (4/10)

I don't remember much from this flick, but I do remember that it sucked really bad. Kim Basinger is a terrible actress (She was only good in L.A. Confidential) and she's been in terrible movies lately. This movie was no different. It was pointless and boring.
