Reservoir Dogs 8/10
Now i rented this movie sometime early this year and it was the first time i'd seen it. i watched it in my VCR about 8 times in the week i rented it for (because it was an older movie i got it for a week) When i first watched it i thought it was the best movie i'd EVER seen! I had seen alot of movies up until than but not as much as i have after. The first time i saw it i gave it 10/10 but after several viewings i got a little picky so i dropped it down to 8. A couple words of advice though you should probabbly be a tarantino fan if oyur going to watch it because if not you will get mad at the way it's told in... so my friends have said. And for his first big movie i think he did a very good job. i'm not sure if i like it better than pulp fiction but pulp fiction is a long movie after you watch it alot. Reservoir dogs is picked at for being "ultra violent" now i didn't see much ultra violence other than some guys getting shot and the cop torture seen (one of the BEST scenes ever) i tihnk that alot of action movies.. ones that suck i might add have alot more violence. and the charecters are all just soo cool, like obviously harvey kaitel is one of the main charecters and he's always such a cool guy. anyways if you've seen this reply tell me what you thought of it.. btw if you have seen it let me know if you have the soundtrack cause i myself think it's probabbly the bes sound track you can by right now

I was kinda the same way with this film. This and CLERKS are two of the films that got me to get off my ass and start writing movies of my own! But after having seen it umpteenth times, it didn't go down as well as before when I watched it a few months back. Seems contrived...(maybe cause I'd seen it like 20 times before!) /ubb/smile.gif
I think I'm gonna stay away from it for awhile, or at least until I "miss" it again...

This is a great movie!
for me it would be 9/10 (when i feel good 9.5!) but u are right chandler: u just have to be a Q.T. fan or at least like his style in order to appreciate this movie. I am personaly a huge fan of the director! He is one of(actually right after Kubrick) the best directors out there. Cant wait for his new flick.
BTW i have all Tarantno soundtracks including Reservoir Dogs and YES it's an excellent soundtrack.
Does anyone know a good site for Tarantino ??

Chandler, I think you're about bang-on, 8 out of 10 is the perfect rating for Reservoir Dogs. I mean, for a virtual first-time director, it's a brilliant effort - but not the greatest effort. Believe it or not, when I saw it for the first time (I don't know how long ago it was) I remember being HIGHLY disappointed at not getting to see the actual heist - only the aftermath. This pissed me off at first mind you - once the weight of the movie sunk in, the details, the dialogue, etc, I realized the heist itself may have actually come up short, being anticlimactic in itself. It is a movie that must be seen by all movie fans and fans of "film" as it really defies description, beyond being Tarantino-esque...

Who cared about Tim Roth, Tarantino, Madsen, Steve Buscemi before this movie. As far as violence, there are movies with more, of course. But as far as death per character, this movie takes the prize. Anyone connected with the heist dies, a cop, jewelry clerks and a woman who was carjacked. When I saw this originally I thought it was in my top 3 ever. But after watching it over and over, it does seem contrived.
I think 2 scenes are brilliant. The bathroom scene with Tim Roth is the best. Also there is a moment when Roth, Keitel, Penn and Buscemi are driving, Penn is relaying this story about a waitress named Elois. Roth asks him to be detailed about what Elois' boyfriend does to her. Penn doesn't know and immediately Roth knows the whole story is bullshit. He knows because when he's meeting with the black undercover cop, he tells Roth that the stories he makes up to gain the confidence of the gang have to be detailed or they would know it's bullshit.
Tarantino stays true to the script, unusual for a first time director.

I agree with what everyone has said so far and yeah Tarantino movies are too contrived. I saw this movie as soon as it came out at the cinemas, it had already received a lot of hype and I was not disappointed. I bought the soundtrack as soon as I could and it is great, Steven Wright is very funny, just my taste in humour. If you anilyze the film it is not nearly as violent as most action films, indeed most of the violence happens off screen or is simply described after the fact. 8/10

I personally like it more than "Pulp Fiction" and it's my favorite Tarantino film...even though there is the "City On Fire" Ringo Lam-rip-off thing going on...still brought independent cinema to the forefront of moviemaking...great dialogue, hard-as-nails characters...it defines the term "pulp fiction"...

I didn't find this movie to be outstanding. I thought it was ok at best. This film is more about substance compared to Pulp Fiction. If i had to choose between the two, i'd probably say Pulp Fiction was better because of the comedy factor (Isn't Sam Jackson just da man when it comes to profanity? :) ). Anyways, not a bad flick but i wasn't terribly impressed. Tarantino has yet to truly impress me...maybe Kill Bill will be awesome. I give Reservoir Dogs a 6/10.
