A powerful film with one of the greatest performances ever captured on film by Harvey Keitel. Have you guys seen it? It's a flick you'll never forget.

"Bad Lieutenant" is the last couple of days in the life of a police lieutenant that has practically lost all humanity in himself. This is a very hard movie to watch as the main character is so despicable as his whole life is an obsession of cocaine, gambling debts, shooting up, prostitute mistresses and ripping off people in the name of being a police officer. It took a lot of guts for Harvey Keitel to take this role, even for him, who takes on meany roles, where the character is barely recognizable as a human being. Harvey Keitel makes the character work because he so totally inhabits this sleazy and I guess you could call evil (what the cocaine has done to him) character. You can't find any decency at all in this character until the end when he thinks he sees Jesus Christ and says he tries to do the right thing, but he's just weak. That was a very bizarre scene to say the least but which I enjoyed very much. I guess Jesus answered him when he said he needed help, Jesus was kind and let him die, at least that's the way I thought the ending meant. Harvey Keitel is one of my favorite actors and it was a treat (although a hard to watch treat) to watch him take on again another unconventional role.
