Honeymoon in Vegas (1992)
Director: Andrew Bergman
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Sarah Jessica Parker, James Caan

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I've probably seen it over 15 times and it still manages to crack me up every time that I watch it. Everything about this movie appeals to me. Nic Cage in his peak "frantic" comedy mode, screaming suddenly whenever he needs to make a point and cracking up piece by piece on the big screen (an excellent comedic performance-- I only wish that he did more of those nowadays).

Sarah Jessica Parker, despite not being a favorite of mine, wears a lot of tight dresses and looks mighty sweet in them bikinis. James Caan....aaaaaah, what can you say about Jimmy Caan in this film? The man takes the goofy mobster role and adds another level to it (and that level is goddamn fright, ya'll!). This guy is both funny and pretty damn scary in this movie. I wouldn't want to fuck with him, I'll tell you that much.

But what takes this so-called "typical" romantic comedy even further is its cutesy story about a guy who basically cannot commit to the woman of his dreams (natch!) and who must suddenly confront his own fears and his desire to attain the girl, in order to win her back. Okay, so that makes it sound a little "serious", but trust me, this movie is all about laughs and if you don't crack up when Nic Cage "loses it" in the airport ticker counter waiting line (while Ben Stein is trying to buy his ticket), you won't appreciate anything else about the movie either...

Cage: "Just get your goddamn ticket and move on!!"

But the film takes it even further (at least in my eyes) by slapping it into two very beautiful environments, one of which is Vegas, and god oh mighty, you can never go wrong with Vegas. And then adding some gorgeous scenes in Hawaii, the blue ocean, the breathtaking sunsets, etc and so forth. Aaaaaaah, and Blue Hawaaiiii....

And then you've got the King of Rock n' Roll spread all over the movie with appearances by the "Flying Elvises" (Utah chapter!), remakes of Elvis songs playing throughout and the spirit of the King soaring through the entire flick (but no hookers, I'm afraid...damn!).

BTW, I'm a big Elvis Presley fan so I'm DEFINITELY a little biased here...

The finale of the movie is also quite the kicker, it moves fast at an even 90 minutes of playtime and the gosh-oh-golly feel of the ending just gets me every time.

Now I've probably "overbuilt" this movie for you all, but trust me, anyone looking for a funny, romantic, cute little movie with a great soundtrack and quirky performances by all, will not be disappointed by this film!

NOW VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!

It's been awhile since I've seen this movie but I remember enjoying it very much. I won't give it a grade though since it's been so long... But thumbs up from me...

So can you all verify for me that Cage doesn't play stereotypical action hero in this film? Y'all convinced me to give Leaving Las Vegas a try and you were right...he was great. Do the films that he is in only turn out well if they have Vegas in the title?

Hehehehe...dude, trust me....Cage had a very promising career before a certain Mr. Bruckheimer decided to take it all away from him... /ubb/biggrin.gif

Movies like Raising Arizona, Red Rock West, Vampire's Kiss and Honeymoon in Vegas highlighted the man's ability to be funny, charming, quirky and believable all at the same time. Then he signed that ol' contract with that certain red-tailed feller and well....it's been downhill ever since.

You should definitely check this one out though...he's very funny in it and the story is just goddamn cute and Elvis, baby....ELVIS!!!!!!

Cage has made a couple of cool action flicks with Bruckheimer in Con Air and The Rock. Gone in 60 Seconds wasnt bad either(if you like cars)

I'm with you JoBlo, great review. "Honeymoon in Vegas" is definitely my second favorite "Vegas" flick of all time (ahem... right behind another certain Nicholas Cage film that I won't mention... suffice it to say there is alcohol and a hooker involved /ubb/tongue.gif). Besides, those flying Elvis' sure beat Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell anyday.

I'm personally not a big fan of the chick who wears the pants in the Broderick household, but she definitely has a great bod, and her performance is right up there with her role in the Bruce Willis flick "Striking Distance". As always James Caan is great in the Robert Redford "Indecent Proposal"-role of big man stealing little man's woman. And Cage is like an early Tom Hanks, except better... you know, he is still full of fun loving energy instead of lulling through "Shadow of the Vampire" producer mode in his Hollywood Castle (the Castle is literal, I mean the dude is like Baron Stanley "Memphis" Goodspeed or something.)

Anyhow, thanks for reminding me of this wonderful film, and believe me I will be picking up a copy of it very soon... /ubb/wink.gif

I finally re-watched this flick this morning, and all I can say is that it is everything I thought it could be and more...

I've read books, you know, it's amazing. I've drunk and wenched my way through Dallas but I'm thinking all the time... "Vegas, Vegas, Vegas", ya know? Amazing tradition. They throw a great party for you on the one day they know you can't come. It's amazing what you can do when you don't have to look at yourself in the mirror.
