Mean Guns(8/10)I canīt believe I liked an Albert Pyun film, maybe the world IS coming to an end.......
This movie will blow you away... literally. Although it is a straight-to- video movie, it has enough action to fill several blockbuster productions. The plot? It's simple- cage a group of killers, give them weapons and a goal, and create a game of "survival of the fittest".
Vincent Moon (Ice-T), leader of The Syndicate, takes over a new prison on the eve of its opening and lures in everyone who has ever betrayed The Syndicate. Among the group are Lou (Christopher Lambert), Marcus (Michael Halsey), and D (Kimberly Warren), three cold-blooded and very professional killers. Throw in an unwitting accountant (Deborah van Valkenburgh), a bimbo named Barbie (Tina Cote), and a pair of "Beavis and Butthead" meets "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" partners-in-crime named Hoss and Crow (Yuji Okumoto and Thom Mathews) along with various other killers and let the fun begin. The last three survivors of the game get to split ten million in cash. Tracking them, however, is Moon, using the prison's all-knowing security system.
Giving an especially charged performance is Lambert, bringing redemption to himself after a string of disappointing B-movies. Also great is newcomer Hunter Lockwood Doughty, playing Lambert's supposed daughter (you'll have to see the movie for an explanation of that one!). Okumoto and Mathews bring the comic relief to the film while Ice-T plays his usual (and great) bad guy persona.
This film also offers more twists and turns than Mulholland Drive, challenging viewers to determine the good guys from the bad (not that any of them can actually be considered good), and leaving an ending that is unusual, if not downright unexpected.
While the ladies probably won't get a kick out of this movie, get the guys together for an explosive and very entertaining time. You won't be disappointed.
