View Full Version : Boy's Don't Cry (10/10)
This is an excellent movie. Hilary Swank and Chloe Sevigny are GREAT in it. It's a very sad film that shouldn't be missed, although I will say isn't for everyone and it's not a feel good movie. I recommended it to my girlfriend and she didn't think it was that great. She thought it was way too graphic and some of the stuff should've been cut out. But I totally disagree. Was it graphic? Hell yes, but I think that it made it more realistic and was important to include in this movie so people would have a better understanding of what happened and how bad it was. So we feel bad for the characters, mainly for Brandon Tina (Hilary Swank). If it wouldn't have been as graphic it just wouldn't have worked as well as it did, it wouldn't be as effective. This movie deserved all of the awards it got and so did the stars, it deserved it all. The ending was also very sad. I remember after seeing this movie I kept singing that song "the bluest eye's in texas" or whatever it was called, even though I hate country music. The song and movie just stuck with me... This is a GREAT film. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

I thought this movie would be great, but when I saw it, I don`t know.Maybe I wasn`t in a mood for this movie, but I think it`s overrated.Hilary Swank was very good, indeed, but she can`t save the movie.4.5/10

I thought this movie was good, and to me this was the only movie where Hilary Swank can act.

Back when I saw this, I was horrified at how graphic, and powerful it was. But when I thought about it, I realized that we never really got to go inside the characters, to see who they really were. We are just viewers watching what goes on, on the surface. The movie never delves into the characters, but that doesn't take away the fact that this is a really good movie, and should be seen for Swank's performance alone. I felt real bad for her in the end, but 7/10.

You've pretty much hit it on the dot, Fergus.

It took a second watching for me to appreciate what a very good and well-acted film "Boys Don't Cry" is despite the grim nature of the film. Hilary Swank gave a performance of a lifetime as the young woman who has a sexual identity crisis and lives her life as a man and Chloe Sevigney was almost as great and gave a very sensitive performance. "Boy's Don't Cry" is one of those films that is very hard to watch because of the rape and murder scenes but you can't deny the fact that this is an very well made film and director-screenwriter Kimberly Peirce did an exceptional job of bringing this true story to film.

I thought Sevigny's performance was better than Swank's-both were great, but I think Sevigny should have gotten the Oscar and Swank's gone to Annette Bening. I thought the movie was excellent-9/10

I think I missed the boat on this one. Hilary Swank was excellent and pulled off a great performance. However, I had no sympathy with the character, whether s/he was mentally disordered or not. The lengths s/he would go to hide her sexuality was amazing. The movie left me feeling like s/he almost deserved what happened to her. Maybe not death. Maybe not the rape. But a punch in the face is a long time coming.

I HATED this movie. Just not my cup-o-tea. Performances were believable but I'd prefer to run into these people at Wal Mart, not in my living room. I know that's harsh but there it is.
Some movies just don't need to be made. But obviously I'm in the minority so I'll just take my two cents and buy a stamp. :)
Boys Don't Cry 2/10

The fact the movie spoke so powerfully to you and made you associate these people with the white trash Walmart crowd invading your living room is testament to the griity nature and power of the film..and truly doesnt deserve to get a funky 2/10..this film is like an 8/10 ..not only for the acting but for making me feel exactly like you did.... I just rate it in reverse for succeeding in bringing out my repulsion for these types of people instead of taking it out on the film for making me feel disgusted at their actions and my distaste for them.

Actually the 2/10 rating was given because I recognize that skill involved in bringing such a realistic piece to the screen. Otherwise, I would have given it 0/10. THe fact that it is realistic could not save the fact that I detested the movie. Most times, I rate films based on my personal enjoyment of them. Regardless of the realism, I did not enjoy one bit of this movie. I have to ask myself, why do people want to see this movie? What can possibly be gained by it? I feel that movies like this are an example of how filmakers take advantage of the human instict to be a voyeur of a disturbing moment (i.e. rubbernecking at a traffic accident ) and that in itself, irritates me.
