Does anyone else think that Jet Li's new movie, The One, is the most blatant rip-off of a movie you've ever seen? It looks exactly like The Matrix...and even the name is stolen from the Matrix. Jet Li...the One? I think not...everyone knows that Neo is "The One..." (as Morpheous constantly refers to him as). And the special effects...don't even get me started on those. I'm boycotting this movie based on its blatan unoriginality.

Erm... Do you think that the concept of "the one" was invented by Matrix? God, I have probably seen HUNDREDS of films where the main character was referred as "the one".

And as for the visuals, The only thing in common with Matrix seems to be that The One uses lot's of overblown wire-fu. Well, they have done that stuff for decades in Hong Kong. Jet Li had done it almost two decades before Matrix came along.

So who is ripping who? The "original" aspects of Matrix you just mentioned were ripped of from other films in the first place.

I really don't think "ripoff" is quite the right term. I mean, there are obvious similarities, but most all of them are superficial. The style is similar, but the actual plot and underlying themes etc. aren't really the same at all.

I was just going to say, "whereas 'The Matrix' was a classic of originality." I don't think so. Thanks for letting me keep my comments short and sweet Tuukka.

Oh, and for the record, in a battle of people who are "The One," Jet Li could kick the holy living crap out of Neo.

I really haven't got excited over this movie. The trailers were not that exciting and plus, they weren't as good as The Matrix trailers. I'll have to wait and see whether it rips from The Matrix, but it just looks like another bad sci-fi film.

The trailer didnt really tell me anything. Seeing it on the small-screen (my computer) left no impression on me whatsoever. My only reason for seeing this (if I do go see this movie) would be because Jet Li consistently kicks ass. If you arent into mindless action and martial arts flicks, this probably isnt for you.

By the way, y'all know that this movie was originally created with WWF's "The Rock" in mind?

That would have made for a seriously different animal altogether, and this thread never would'a got started, reckon, mmHmm.

This movie is gonna suck. Directed by James Wong, what the fuck, all he did was directing Final Destination and writing some X-Files episodes. He doesn't know any thing about great Sci-Fi movies. It's gonna suck.

I actually think this one (no pun intended!) looks good and the fact that its got Jet Li and some good looking fight sequences makes it better (for me anyway), judging by the trailer I've seen anyways, but you all know how misleading trailers can be...

For Example:
The Lost World: Good trailer, shit movie
ID4: Great trailer, ok movie
Scream 3: Trailer made it look good, shame the final product absolutely sucked

These are all my own opinions so you can put down your weapons if I offended you!!

I POSTED THIS IN THE GENERAL FORUM:

It was The Matrix that started it all. Sci-fi Martial Arts flicks were ALMOST non existent (at least in the U.S) until march of 1999. I just saw the second trailer for The One and it got me thinking:

1. How many more of these movies will be released before Reloaded?
2. Will it worth the watch/money?
3. Will Reloaded be better?

I'll definatly see The one though.

Is The One a Silva Production?

Well, I think I spoke too soon on this one. After seeing the TV trailer a few hours ago, I can see a lot more Matrix influence than I originally expected. Is it a direct ripoff? I'm not going to say for sure until I sit down and watch it. But is the success of The Matrix responsible for this movie being made in the style that it is? Most definatly yes.

Is The One trying to benefit of the success of The Matrix? Definitely. Would it have been made if Matrix wouldn't have been so succesful? Not likely. But is it a direct rip-off of Matrix? Nope. Because Matrix didn't invent wire-fu, or slow-motion, or bullet-time, or alternative realities, or virtual reality, or "the one", etc... I mean the storyline for The One is TOTALLY different, and the visual style it uses has been used for decades in HK cinema. Jet Li did that kind of fight scenes years before Matrix. And when you look at it, the visual style and feel of the movie is very different from Matrix, with the exception of the fight scenes.

I haven't heard much or seen anything of this movie, but i can say that The Matrix is not a original movi what so ever, and from the way people are putting this movie out to us it doesn't seem like its gonna be a matrix rip off at all.

this crap isn't worthy to be compared to the matrix. Like Lee sees a bullet in slo mo after him and has time to pull his gun out of his ass and hit it away. Even if he hit it, it would knock the gun out of his hand. AND JET LEE VS JET LEE from the one is a rip off of the matrix reloaded! For those of you who dont know about the matrix reloaded, neo fights a ton of agent smiths!

I'd also like to add that The One poster is a blatant rip-off of the X Men poster.

I don't care if it ripped if The Matrix word for word, kick-ass fight scenes and Jet Li still make for a kickin-assin movie. Plus, I really like the plot for this one.

The fight scenes look somewhat like the matrix, but nothing I would call a ripoff. The one movie this does remind me a lot of is Highlander (as far as the story goes.)
